Chapter 99, waiting for Beris (3 people)

After the three people, including Bereith, who had been cursed with amnesia by Borest, recovered, the familiar summoning ritual began.

Bereza was the first to go up.

As the eldest grandson of the Flor family, who was highly regarded, Berry unsurprisingly summoned a strange stone bear that represented power.

Next up is Anne Bella.

Annie Bella summoned a frail-looking snow spirit rabbit, which perfectly matched her parents' expectations for her.

Then there's Bruce.

Bruce summoned a completely transparent blue crystal butterfly, which suited him quite well.

Then there's Chicarol.

Chicarol summoned a fire-tailed lizard, just as temperamental as he was.

Next is Elizabeth.

Elizabeth summoned a rose fairy.

“The children are all very good,” Ancia said to Anna with a smile. “Especially Reese. He usually seems very carefree, but he managed to summon the most powerful familiar among them.”

“The Stone Bear’s words are a bit too rude,” Anna said, covering her mouth and laughing. “The beautiful Crystal Butterfly is more suitable for my son. He received a letter from Miss Vicanis a couple of days ago, inviting him to a ball.”

Joseph and Andrew were also discussing which was more powerful, the Strange Stone Bear or the Crystal Butterfly.

Black Cassie, observing the undercurrents in the scene, tapped his cane and casually asked, "Where are the Borist people?"

The scene immediately fell silent.

Finally, the butler, under immense pressure, said, "Young Master Borist is digging a pit behind the castle with Miss Olivia and Miss Carola."

"Call him over. He's getting old enough to summon his familiars," Black Cassie ordered.

The butler didn't dare to delay and quickly went downstairs to find Borest.

Before the housekeeper came down, Borist had been digging a hole—because his two younger sisters wanted to play, and Lu Renkui said they could do some physical work to exercise.

When the butler went downstairs, he found three "wild men" whose pants were covered in dust.

Despite his slight disdain for the three siblings who resembled savages, the butler suppressed his contempt and respectfully addressed Borest, saying, "Young Master Borest, Lord Black Cassie wishes you to go up and participate in the familiar summoning ceremony."

Borist fell silent. Although he had expected that Black Cassie might pay a little more attention to him because he had won first place in the academy competition, he did not expect that he would actually think of having him participate in the familiar summoning ceremony, which almost prevented him from hiding the cat.

Borist hid the cat and, together with his two sisters, walked to the door of the room where the familiar was summoned.

Boris had his two sisters wait a short distance from the door. The moment he entered, Boris could feel everyone's eyes on him.

Ignoring the gazes of everyone present, Borest greeted all the elders and then stood in the center of the magic circle.

As the images and text on the magic circle lit up, everyone present—especially the younger generation—besides Black Cassie, became tense.

Borist stood between the magic circles, not expecting to summon anything—because Lu Renkui and the system WQBYRZM said that the original plot mentioned that he didn't have any familiars because he was too powerful and didn't need any familiars to help him.

Of course, part of the reason is probably that they didn't even think to call his name when they were performing the ritual to choose a familiar. Borest looked at the thing that had appeared in the magic circle; it didn't seem to be alive.

Sure enough, after the light faded, no living thing appeared in the center of the magic circle, only a stone.

The stone was black with a few white spots on it. Although it was described as shiny, it was actually a stone without any magic power.

Borist heard a soft laugh, but he couldn't be bothered to pay attention at the moment, since not summoning a familiar was within his expectations.

Black Cassie's expression seemed even colder than when Borist entered. He waved Borist away.

Borest picked up the stone and left the ritual site for choosing a familiar without looking back.

Turning left after leaving the house, Borist saw Olivia and Carola, who were wrapping the little black cat in their coats to prevent it from being seen by others.

When they saw Borist come out, Olivia and Carola ran over excitedly. Olivia threw herself into Borist's arms, while Carola hugged Borist's hand.

"What is this? Is it my brother's familiar?" After rubbing against Borist's stomach for a while, Olivia noticed the stone in Borist's hand.

“Well, I think it’s just a pretty stone. It doesn’t have any magical enhancements or any signs of life,” Borest said helplessly. “I didn’t summon anything.”

Upon hearing this, Carola simply hugged Borist and said, "Brother is amazing. He can be just as amazing as others without using a familiar."

When Olivia saw Carola hug Borist, she quickly hugged Borist as well.

Holding his two younger sisters, Borist felt that he had nothing left to worry about losing.

After the ceremony, Borest decided to take his two sisters to the market to buy things.

Just then, they heard voices behind them. As soon as Borist heard someone speaking, he immediately called for a broom, mounted it, and ran off with his two sisters.

Watching Borist ride away on his broomstick with two little girls out the window, Chicarole's smug little flame was immediately extinguished.

"Why is this guy running so fast?" Chicarol, unable to show off to Borest, could only angrily slap the stair railing, while the fire-tailed lizard on his shoulder opened its mouth and breathed out a small burst of flame.

“He’s probably ashamed to face you, after all, he only summoned a useless broken stone, while you, my son, you summoned a fire-tailed lizard with extremely strong attack power!” Chicaror’s mother, Ansia, appeared from behind Chicaror with a smile, and then patted Chicaror’s head.

Chicarol's mood improved slightly. He snorted and said, "It's clear that winning first place in the academy competition is useless; no matter how strong he is, he can't attract a single familiar."

"First place in the academy's magic competition?" Annie Bella seemed surprised to hear Chicaror's words. "Wasn't Borest always hovering around the level of an ordinary mage? How did he suddenly win first place in the academy's magic competition?"

"What else could it be? Just good luck." Chicarol said dismissively, "First, he released a protective shield to avoid being accidentally injured by the aftermath of the first battle. Then, all the opponents he was matched with were weaker than him. Finally, he went to fight that rising star from our academy, and at the last moment, he was lucky enough to knock that rising star unconscious with his attack."

"Oh, really?" Annie Bella stroked the small, adorable Snow Spirit Rabbit in her hand, her blue-purple eyes blinking.

“Of course! If there hadn’t been no protective shield on the waiting area, I wouldn’t have been knocked unconscious by the rubble and dragged away.” Chicarol was still a little angry when he thought about it. “That guy Borist actually put up a protective shield. If he had just put himself and that guy Heikal in the shield, that would have been one thing, but he would rather share a shield with those lowly commoners than give me, his cousin, a shield.”

Annie Bella blinked, smiled, and then carried the Snow Spirit Rabbit upstairs, saying, "I'm going to find some treats for my dear little rabbit. You should also hurry up and feed your Firetail Lizard something, Carol."

Upon entering her room, Annie Bella's smile vanished instantly. She coldly glanced at the Snow Rabbit in her arms, casually placed it on the table, and tossed it two pieces of feed, not caring whether the Snow Rabbit would be full.

Annebella abruptly closed the curtains, instantly plunging the brightly lit room into darkness. Lying on the bed, she began to grumble, "Enough, enough, enough! Stupid brother, incompetent mother, useless father, and an older brother who's barely intelligent. Why wasn't I born to my grandmother? That way I could boss them around."

The Snow Spirit Rabbit finished its two feeds, and it was clear that the amount of feed was far from enough. So it ran to its contractor, rubbed against her feet, and hoped that she could give it some more food.

Annie Bella didn't even lift her body. Feeling something furry brush against her foot, she kicked it away. "Get away! How dare you rub against me like that? You're not a majestic snow leopard or a brave white lion. You could be a kitten. But you're a rabbit, a grass-eating rabbit!"

"Why, why!" Annie Bella kicked the Snow Spirit Rabbit away, rolled over, and lay face down on the bed, muttering to herself, completely ignoring the Snow Spirit Rabbit whimpering in the corner.

After complaining about the Snow Spirit Rabbit, Annie Bella continued to complain about her family—she complained that her mother only cared about her older and younger brothers, that her father had a mistress outside and had a daughter, and that she was not as favored as the mistress's daughter, and that Beris took better care of Chicarole and completely ignored her, his younger sister.

Finally, Annebella started complaining about Chicarola. When she remembered Chicarola getting angry at Borest for ignoring her on the stairs, Annebella wanted to laugh—why did she have such a petty and stupid brother?

"He can't even hold up a protective shield, yet he blames others for not protecting him? Ha, how interesting. But... Borist." Annie Bella got out of bed and pulled back half of the curtains, looking at the several holes that Borist and his two sisters had dug outside the castle.

This kid is still as strange as ever, but he's much better than that idiot Chicarole, both in ability and mentality. Annie Bella thought, a cold smile creeping onto her face as she pictured Borist carrying his two sisters in his arms and riding away on a broomstick—in some ways, even Bella couldn't compare to Borist.

When Borest gets into trouble, he'll take his sister with him and run away, but when Bereaves gets into trouble, she's lucky if she doesn't trip her up and just stays where she is to take the blame.

Having won first place in the academy's magic competition, this kid must be quite skilled. It would be strange if he couldn't summon a familiar. Thinking of familiars, Annie Bella glanced sideways at the Snow Spirit Rabbit still trembling in the corner.

After mentally calling Snow Spirit Rabbit useless, Annie Bella turned around and began to research the literature. She wanted to find out why Borist couldn't summon his familiar in a way that defied common sense.

There are generally only three reasons why you might not be able to summon a familiar.

The first possibility is that the person who summoned the familiar was so incompetent that no familiar could sense him, so as a consolation, the magic circle randomly switched to something else.

The second method involves summoning a very powerful familiar, but such a familiar cannot usually be summoned directly through such a small magic circle. Therefore, one can only transfer the familiar's token and wait for the familiar to come to them.

The third reason is that this person is so strong that they no longer need a familiar, so the magic circle randomly selected a place and sent something over.

Generally, the inability to summon a familiar is mostly due to the first reason, while the second and third are extremely rare, so almost no one thinks about it. Annie Bella pondered this, then took out a book as tall as her calf from her ring and began flipping through the section on familiars. She had a premonition that the stone Borest had produced today was definitely not an ordinary stone.
