Chapter 151 Dai You's Obsession
Chapter 151 Dai You's Obsession
It turns out his real name is Kong Yao, a recent graduate with a master's degree in literature. He has a deep interest in classical literature. Here, Xia Yao's identity and memories make him feel right at home, allowing him to continue focusing on his passion.
After hearing this, Xia Lanyue felt even more guilty. Xia Yao had made a great sacrifice for her sake.
“I’ve thwarted your dream,” Xia Lanyue said dejectedly. “I remember you said you wanted to give it a try.”
“It’s okay, you are my dream right now,” Xia Yao said with a smile.
Xia Lanyue was taken aback. "Even in this situation, you still have the mind to joke around."
"I'm not kidding, Yue, will you marry me?" Xia Yao's smile faded.
Xia Lanyue's heart skipped a beat when she saw the serious look on his face as he spoke.
She admitted that she used to like Xia Yao, but too many things happened afterward that made her waver in her feelings. Although they had known each other for a long time, she felt that she had never truly understood Xia Yao. She didn't know if she could trust him, or if she could give him her heart.
Just as she was wondering how to answer Xia Yao, Dai You coughed at the door.
"Cough cough cough".
The two tacitly fell silent, and Xia Lanyue took a few steps back, distancing herself from Xia Yao.
Dai You carried in water. He didn't say anything, poured the water into the water vat, and then beckoned to Xia Lanyue to come out.
Dai You walked out of the kitchen and raised his left hand to Xia Lanyue. "Ayue, I have a thorn stuck in my finger. Can you help me remove it?"
"Okay, which finger?" Xia Lanyue asked.
"The middle joint of the index finger," Dai You said.
Xia Lanyue held Dai You's hand and tried to examine it carefully, but it was getting dark and she couldn't see what it was in her hand.
“Come to my room, turn on the light and come see,” Dai You said, pulling Xia Lanyue’s arm as they walked into the room.
After lighting the oil lamp, Xia Lanyue examined Dai You's hand in the dim light. After finding the thorn that was slightly protruding from the skin, Xia Lanyue pinched it with her fingernail and gently pulled it out.
“Okay, look,” Xia Lanyue stretched out her finger, showing Dai You the tiny splinter on her finger.
However, she didn't get a response from Dai You. She looked at Dai You and found that he was staring at her with complicated eyes.
Xia Lanyue had seen that look before, and she understood its meaning. She began to feel afraid and hurriedly reached out to grab it, but Dai You caught her off guard.
She tried to pull her hand back, but Dai You held it firmly in place.
Xia Lanyue looked at Dai You in horror, her voice trembling as she asked, "Dai You?"
Dai You ignored her, looked at her fingertips, touched the splinter off her fingers, and then let go of Xia Lanyue's hand. "So this is the little thing. It made me hurt for so long."
Xia Lanyue was a little flustered. She said, "I'm going back to rest," and then ran out of Dai You's room as if she were escaping.
She was still in a state of emotional turmoil when she ran into Xia Yao walking towards her.
He had just finished washing the dishes and was straightening his sleeves.
He noticed Xia Lanyue looked a little flustered. "What's wrong, A-Yue?" he asked, then looked at Dai You with a puzzled expression.
"It's alright, get some rest," Xia Lanyue said without looking up as she walked towards her room.
Suddenly, Xia Yao grabbed Xia Lanyue's arm. Xia Lanyue was startled and looked up at him.
Xia Yao said softly, "Come to my room later, we'll talk for a while."
Xia Lanyue didn't think about anything, nodded, and went back to her room.
She lay in bed, her mind in turmoil.
The way Dai You looked at her just now reminded her of the things he did when he was jealous and lost control, which made her feel uneasy.
Xia Lanyue used to think that as long as she recognized Dai You as her brother, she could keep her distance. But now she realized that she had overlooked one thing: Dai You's possessiveness as a man towards his former lover, Dai Xiyue.
Thinking about all this, Xia Lanyue felt agitated and couldn't lie down, so she simply turned over and sat up.
Thinking of her promise to Xia Yao, Xia Lanyue got out of bed and gently opened the door.
She glanced at the main house; the door was open, as if it had been left open.
But she hesitated.
Is it appropriate to go to a man's room in the middle of the night?
Just then, Xia Yao, unable to wait for Xia Lanyue, came out to check.
He was taken aback when he saw Xia Lanyue, then waved to her, signaling her to come over.
Xia Lanyue cautiously glanced at Dai You's room. The door was open, but there was no snoring coming from inside, as if he hadn't fallen asleep yet.
She dared not step over that door.
Xia Lanyue shook her head at Xia Yao, pointed to Dai You's room, made a sleeping gesture, and then waved her hand.
Xia Yao looked puzzled, yet seemed to know something, so he squatted down at the door and waited for Xia Lanyue.
The two looked at each other for the time it takes for an incense stick to burn.
Finally, Xia Yao couldn't wait any longer and stood up to walk towards her, but Xia Lanyue stopped him in time.
Xia Lanyue waved her hand, shooing him back and signaling him to go back to sleep.
Thus, their plan to chat ended in failure, and they each went back to their rooms to sleep.
Xia Lanyue woke up early in the morning to the smell of food.
She sat up abruptly, climbed out of bed, and walked out of the room.
Xia Yao was cooking porridge by the stove, while Dai You was adding firewood.
Seeing this, Xia Lanyue felt quite happy.
"Ah Yue, you're awake. The porridge will be ready soon," Xia Yao greeted Xia Lanyue.
Xia Lanyue smiled and said, "You're here."
After breakfast, Xia Yao insisted that Xia Lanyue see him off.
Xia Lanyue agreed.
Dai You followed behind them, keeping a distance that was neither too far nor too close.
As they walked, Xia Yao would occasionally glance at Dai You behind him.
"What's wrong?" Xia Lanyue asked.
“Ah Yue, Dai You is keeping a close eye on you now,” Xia Yao said.
"Hmm," Xia Lanyue smiled helplessly.
Xia Yao ignored all of that and said to Xia Lanyue, "Do you want to go back, back to where we came from?"
Xia Lanyue was taken aback for a moment, then her eyes suddenly lit up. "Do you have a solution?"
Xia Yao smiled and said, "I'm still looking. I've consulted some books, but I haven't found any records similar to our situation yet."
Xia Lanyue deflated again. "Does that mean I'll have to stay here forever?"
Xia Yao looked at her and whispered, "That's possible, but with A-Yue by my side, a lifetime doesn't feel long."
Hearing this, Xia Lanyue felt a strange sensation. "Don't always say things like that, it feels weird."
"What's so strange about it? It sounds nice?" Xia Yao teased.
Xia Lanyue couldn't help but laugh out loud, "Greasy," then realized her laughter was a bit too loud and quickly stopped.
"Hahaha, A-Yue is the best at saying one thing and meaning another," Xia Yao laughed until he finished. "A-Yue, have you thought about what I asked you yesterday?"
Xia Lanyue was taken aback, then shook her head.
"Then I'll have to work harder," Xia Yao said, looking ahead.
"Xia Yao, can we be friends?" Xia Lanyue asked.
Xia Yao's smile faded. "Do you hate me?"
Xia Lanyue thought for a moment, "No."
"Do you have someone you like?" Xia Yao asked again.
"no".
Xia Yao thought for a moment, "Why is that?"
"I think it's better to let things happen naturally when it comes to relationships. We don't know each other very well, so talking about marriage feels a bit awkward," Xia Lanyue said, her head down.
“I understand. Then I won’t bring it up again. Let’s start as friends, okay?” Xia Yao said.
Xia Lanyue was very satisfied with the answer and nodded with a sigh of relief.
At this moment, Xia Yao took out a bag of money from his pocket and handed it to Xia Lanyue.
"What is this?" Xia Lanyue took it and looked at it; it was full of copper coins.
“You know, our house isn’t very furnished, and I don’t know how to do any of this. I’ll leave the house to you. Buy whatever you like, and I’ll give you more money if you need more. Oh, and by the way, I’ll have to trouble you to find someone to fix the chimney,” Xia Yao said.
Xia Lanyue looked at the money bag in her hand and listened to his words, feeling somewhat dazed. Why did she feel like she was getting married and living a normal life?
"A-Yue?" Xia Yao noticed that Xia Lanyue seemed a little absent-minded. "Why don't you stay here? We can keep each other company, so you won't be lonely."
Xia Lanyue thought for a moment and nodded.
Xia Yao smiled and said, "I'm going to see Village Chief Zhao. See you later." Then he turned to Dai You and said, "Brother-in-law, see you tonight."
Xia Lanyue gave a helpless smile.
