Chapter 50 Li Deshan
Chapter 50 Li Deshan
"Hey, you can stay and eat with us. You don't need to pay. You have to take us to find Master Li today. Consider it your job, and we'll provide meals." Lin Yan quickly called out to him as he was about to leave.
“Yes, come eat with us! We’ll go after we’ve eaten,” Lin’s father also urged.
"That won't do!" Zhang Peng quickly declined, as it's unacceptable to eat with one's employer.
"Alright, sit down. We don't have that many formalities in our family." Lin Yan winked at Lin Yu.
Lin Yu blinked, and seeing that Zhang Peng was about to refuse, he quickly pulled him back and pressed him onto the stool. "Eat together!"
"Yes, thank you, boss," Zhang Peng replied awkwardly, sitting on the stool.
"Boss, five bowls of wontons, please," Lin Yan called out to the boss.
"Alright, would you like a large bowl or a small bowl?" The owner was cooking wontons with a strainer in his hand.
"I want a small bowl!" Lin Yu shouted.
"Me too, I want a small bowl too." Zhang Peng raised his hand.
Lin Yan glanced at him and said to the shopkeeper, "Three large bowls and two small bowls."
"Alright. Please have a seat, sir. It will be ready shortly."
The group sat around the table, and Lin Yu suddenly sniffed, "It smells so good!"
Lin Yan smelled it too. "Yes, what's that smell?"
"It's roast chicken!" Lin Yu pointed to a roast chicken that had just been taken out of the oven from a shop.
"It smells really good. I'll go buy one." Lin Yan got up and walked over.
Lin Yu initially wanted to say no, but then he thought it smelled so good that he might as well have a little. He swallowed hard but didn't say anything.
A short while later, Lin Yan came over with a roasted chicken.
Once the chicken was placed on the table and the oil paper was opened, the aroma of chicken filled the air, making the group of people swallow hard.
"Try it," Lin Yan said, tearing off a leg and handing it to Lin Yu, whose eyes were shining as he stared at the roast chicken.
Then he tore the whole chicken apart and called out to the group, "Hurry up and try it!"
Mr. Lin gave Mrs. Lin a chicken leg. Mrs. Lin glanced at him and then handed it to Lin Yan: "Yan'er, you eat this."
"Ahem." Old Mr. Lin's face flushed red as he coughed.
"No need, Mother, you eat. Try this place and see how it is." Lin Yan watched the two interact with a smile.
Seeing Zhang Peng standing there motionless, Lin Yan took a piece and handed it to him, saying, "You should eat some too!"
"I...I...I won't eat it." Zhang Peng waved his hand, almost afraid to breathe. It smelled so good that he was afraid he would drool.
"Eat up, young Zhang." Lin's father's face was no longer red, and he hurriedly urged Zhang Peng, "Eat up, eat up, you can work better if you're full."
Overwhelmed by their repeated enthusiasm, Zhang Peng accepted the gift and thanked them, saying, "Thank you, thank you!"
Zhang Peng ate very carefully, cherishing every bite, afraid that if he finished it all at once, he would feel too embarrassed to take any more.
Lin Yan also took a piece, tasted it, and found that it was sweet. The skin of the roasted chicken was a little sticky: "It must have been made with honey. It tastes better than mine."
"Hehehehe, that's true." Lin Yu chuckled, his mouth greasy from eating.
Lin Yan raised an eyebrow upon hearing this, and looked at him with a smile, saying, "Really?~"
"Uh." Lin Yu blinked. He glanced at Lin Yan, and seeing her expression, he shuddered. "It's different, it's different. Yours is delicious too, sister."
"Humph."
"I'll try adding honey next time."
As the group shared the roasted chicken, the owner brought out steaming hot wontons. Lin Yan gave the large bowl to her parents and Zhang Peng, while she and Lin Yu ate from the small bowl.
“Hey, miss, I’ll just have a small bowl,” Zhang Peng quickly said.
"The small bowl is mine. You don't eat as much as I do, do you?" Lin Yan raised an eyebrow.
"Uh." Zhang Peng wasn't a small eater, it's just that the small bowl and the large bowl cost two coins each.
Seeing that Lin Yan had already started eating, there was no point in changing the food back. He could only resolve to work more diligently for her in the future.
After they finished eating, they set off for Lijiazhuang.
When Zhang Peng led the group to Master Li's house and saw the house, Lin Yan became even more certain that this was a master.
The main house of the Li family's house is a brick and wood structure, while the two side houses are made entirely of wood, with mortise and tenon joints visible at the eaves. It stands out remarkably among the surrounding mud houses and thatched huts.
Lin's father was so engrossed in watching that he pointed to the eaves and explained the structure to Lin Yu.
Zhang Peng was already knocking on the door. "Grandpa Li, are you home?"
"Who is it?" came a voice that was old but had a strong voice.
A moment later, the courtyard gate opened from the inside, and the four members of the Lin family immediately focused their eyes on the old man who opened the gate.
Li Deshan was a thin, old man with a serious face, and he was far from being kind.
"Zhang Peng, what brings you here?" Li Deshan asked, frowning.
“Mr. Li, my client wants to build a new house, but he can’t find a craftsman who can build it. That’s why I recommended you. You’re definitely capable.” Zhang Peng explained his purpose and flattered Master Li.
"Hmph, I'm not taking any more jobs, I'm too old!" Li Deshan wasn't fooled by Zhang Peng's flattery and refused outright.
"No, Mr. Li, if you don't take this job, there's no one else in Rong'an County and the surrounding areas who can do it."
Li Deshan: "Hmph, don't try to flatter this old man."
"Take a look at the blueprints first, then decide!"
Li Deshan frowned: "Blueprints?"
He glanced at the people behind Zhang Peng, said, "Come in," and turned back into the courtyard.
Seeing this, Zhang Peng quickly followed.
The Lin family members exchanged glances and followed.
As soon as Lin Yan entered the courtyard, her eyes lit up again. The courtyard had many wooden frames with flowers and plants growing on them, giving it an antique feel.
Looking at Master Li again, I raised an eyebrow. The old man was lying in a rocking chair, dangling his legs and swaying back and forth.
"Hey, Mr. Li, is this the family I was talking about who wants to build a house?" Zhang Peng pointed to Lin's father and the others.
"What blueprints? Let me see them," Li Deshan asked, lying in his rocking chair with his eyes closed.
"Here you go." Lin Yan took out the blueprints and handed them to Zhang Peng.
Zhang Peng unfolded it for Li Deshan to see, "Hey, take a look!"
Li Deshan opened his eyes, his initially indifferent expression faltering upon seeing the blueprints. He then stared at them with a serious expression for a while.
"Where did this come from?" Li Deshan asked.
“I drew it!” Lin Yan looked at Master Li.
"You drew this? You studied it?" Li Deshan was somewhat surprised when he saw Lin Yan speaking.
"No, I just wanted to build a house like that, to draw a rough sketch. I don't really understand the specifics of how to construct it."
"The style is novel and ingenious; the painting is quite good!" Li Deshan said calmly.
"So you're willing to help?" Zhang Peng asked excitedly.
"no!"
"Hey! Why?" Zhang Peng thought that Master Li was interested in this, but he was rejected again.
"Didn't I say I'm too old to do those kinds of work?"
“Master Li, you don’t need to do any manual labor. We’ve hired craftsmen, but we’re short of someone to lead us,” Lin’s father also requested.
