Chapter 313 Overlord-Level "Gun Bug"
Chapter 313 Overlord-Level "Gun Bug"
The atmosphere on the battlefield suddenly became tense; the appearance of the Hive Overlord caused the entire ground to tremble. Its body was over ten meters tall, with four thick arms each wielding a massive bone blade, and eight tentacles on its back whipping through the air like whips, each covered in sharp barbs and corrosive slime. Its target was clear—Russell.
"Russell, watch out! That's the Hive Overlord!" Arya's voice was tinged with tension as she quickly deployed her psionic shield, attempting to provide Russell with more protection.
Kato Sicarius gripped his power sword, his gaze grave: "This guy is no ordinary Tyrannical warrior, Russell, we need to join forces!"
Russell nodded, his gaze fixed on the approaching Hive Overlord. His Bloodsucker entrenching tool glowed with golden psionic energy once more, arcs of electricity crackling around him. He knew this was about to be an unprecedentedly fierce battle.
The Hive Overlord let out a deafening roar, its four arms swinging simultaneously, a massive bone blade slashing towards Russell with devastating force. Russell leaped into the air, golden psionic energy erupting beneath his feet, allowing him to dodge the fatal blow like lightning. The bone blade missed its target, smashing a huge crater into the ground, sending rubble and dust flying everywhere.
"Boom!" Russell swung the Blooddrinker entrenching tool in mid-air, unleashing a golden bolt of lightning aimed at the Hive Overlord's head. However, the Hive Overlord reacted swiftly, its tentacles on its back quickly blocking the lightning, absorbing the golden bolt and leaving only a charred mark.
"Its defense is too strong!" Cato roared, swinging his power sword at one of the Zerg overlord's arms. However, the Zerg's carapace was incredibly tough, and the power sword only left a shallow mark on it.
The Hive Overlord's tentacles lashed out at Cato with incredible speed, leaving him no time to react. Cato barely dodged, but the barbs on the tentacles still left several deep scratches on his power armor.
"Kato, watch out!" Russell's voice rang out as his Bloodsucker entrenching tool cleaved at the Hive Overlord's other arm once more. Golden psionic energy erupted, tearing the Zerg's carapace apart, but the Hive Overlord's regeneration was incredibly fast, and the wound healed rapidly.
Arya stood at a distance, her hands rapidly forming hand seals, a psionic storm gathering in her palms. Her voice was calm and firm: "Russell, Cato, I need time to prepare a large psionic spell. You two have to hold it off!"
Russell nodded, a resolute glint in his eyes: "Understood! Cato, let's go!"
Cato sneered and swung his power sword again: "Just what I wanted!"
The two charged at the Hive Overlord from the left and right. Russell's Bloodsucker shovel crackled with golden lightning, while Cato's power sword gleamed with the glory of an Ultramariner. The Hive Overlord's four arms and eight tentacles lashed out simultaneously, attempting to force the two back, but Russell and Cato's coordination was impeccable, their attacks raining down on the Hive Overlord like a storm.
Boom! Russell's golden lightning struck the Hive Overlord's head again. This time, the insectoid's carapace was completely torn apart, and green blood gushed out. The Hive Overlord let out a painful roar, its tentacles lashing out wildly at Russell.
Russell retreated quickly, but the tentacles were too fast, and one of them lashed out at his chest. Russell was sent flying several meters, crashing heavily to the ground, a trickle of blood escaping his mouth.
"Russell!" Cato roared, his power sword plunging towards the Hive Overlord's eye. The Hive Overlord let out a shrill scream, its massive body staggering backward.
Just then, Arya's psionic spell was finally ready. She thrust her hands out, unleashing a massive psionic storm that completely enveloped the Hive Overlord. Within the storm, the Zerg's carapace was torn apart, its flesh stripped away, and the Hive Overlord let out a final, defiant roar before its massive body crashed to the ground.
The battlefield was silent, the corpses of the Zerg overlords piled up like a small mountain. Russell struggled to his feet, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, and smiled slightly: "Well done, Arya."
Arya walked to Russell's side, the psionic shield still protecting the two of them: "Are you alright?"
Russell nodded, his gaze fixed on the distant swarm of insects: "I'm fine. But this is just the beginning; the will of the hive won't give up easily."
Cato walked to Russell's other side, the Zerg blood still fresh on his power sword: "Russell, your performance was truly remarkable. However, we'll face an even greater challenge next."
Russell's gaze was firm and powerful: "No matter how difficult the road ahead, we will fight to the end."
The fall of the Zerg overlord did not alleviate the pressure on the battlefield; instead, it fueled an even more frenzied attack from the Zerg. Countless giant bladed insects surged forward like a black tide, their bodies reaching three to four meters in height, their sharp bone blades gleaming coldly in the sunlight. Although their combat strength was inferior to that of the Tyranid warriors, their sheer numbers made them a deadly threat.
Russell stood in the center of the battlefield, the golden psionic energy on his Bloodthirster shovel still shimmering, but his breathing had become rapid. Each swing of his sword carried devastating power, golden lightning raging through the swarm, felling swathes of giant blade-wielding insects. However, the number of insects was simply too great, and his stamina was rapidly dwindling.
"Russell, watch out on the left!" Arya's voice rang out as her psionic shield re-activated, blocking several giant bladed insects attempting to ambush them. Her psionic storm raged through the swarm, buying Russell a moment to catch his breath.
Cato Sicarius wielded his power sword, engaging in close combat with the giant blade insects. His power armor was covered in insectoid acid and claw marks, but his movements remained swift and precise. His voice came through the communicator: "Russell, there are too many of these! We need to find a way to break through!"
Russell nodded, a hint of weariness flashing in his eyes: "Hold on a little longer, we must buy time for the Blood Angels!"
However, just as Russell swung the Bloodthirster shovel again, a low hum suddenly came from the distant swarm of insects. A tyrant-level "gun bug" emerged from the swarm, its body like a mobile artillery platform, its massive living gun barrel aimed at Russell.
"Russell, watch out!" Before Arya's warning had even faded, the live bullet from the gun bug had already been fired. The bullet, carrying corrosive slime and devastating impact, headed straight for Russell.
"Boom!" The live bullet struck Russell directly, the enormous impact sending him flying dozens of meters before he crashed heavily to the ground. His power armor was corroded by the viscous fluid, leaving a huge dent in his chest, and blood gushed from his mouth.
"Russell!" Arya and Cato exclaimed simultaneously, rushing towards Russell's location.
Russell struggled to lift his head, his vision already blurred. His body felt as if it were being torn apart; the excruciating pain made it almost impossible for him to breathe. He knew he was seriously injured, but the battle was far from over.
"I...I'm fine..." Russell murmured, trying to stand up, but the intense pain in his body made him fall down again.
Arya rushed to Russell's side, her hands quickly forming hand seals, enveloping them both in a psionic shield. Her voice trembled slightly: "Russell, don't move! Your injuries are too severe!"
Cato stood in front of the two, slashing his power sword and cutting down several giant bladed insects that tried to approach. His voice held a hint of anger: "These damned bugs! Russell, hold on, we'll get you out of here soon!"
However, the Zerg's attack did not stop. More giant blade bugs and gun bugs were approaching their location, and the Hive Will seemed to have locked onto Russell, determined to annihilate him completely.
At this critical moment, a deafening roar suddenly echoed from the sky. The Blood Angels' Thunderhawk gunships descended from the heavens, unleashing a torrent of explosive fire upon the swarm of insects. Dante's voice came through the communicator: "Russell! Hold on! We're here!"
Russell's vision blurred, but a smile played on his lips. He knew his brothers had never abandoned him. No matter how treacherous the road ahead, they would fight to the very end.
“For…the Emperor…” Russell murmured softly before falling into a coma.
Arya and Cato quickly carried Russell onto the Thunderhawk gunboat, while the warriors of the Blood Angels provided cover for them.
