Chapter 291 Successful Evacuation
Chapter 291 Successful Evacuation
Gorgraz stood atop the altar, his decaying fingers pointing at Russell: "Look at you, mortal. Struggling like a trapped beast, you can't even touch the hem of my robe. Your golden psionic energy is nothing but the embers of an emperor's dying struggle!"
Russell clenched his fists, the serrated edge of the Bloodthirsty entrenching tool trembling from the excessive force. His eyes burned with furious flames, and golden arcs of electricity swirled wildly around him.
"Shut up!" Russell's voice was like thunder, startling the surrounding Chaos Mechs.
Russell slammed his feet into the ground, and golden arcs of electricity erupted from his body, shooting straight into the sky. The sky was instantly torn apart, and countless golden lightning bolts rained down like an emperor's wrath.
"Psionic Storm!" Russell's voice echoed through the lightning, as golden lightning cleaved through the armor of the Chaos Mech, turning the cultist to ashes.
Gorgraz's staff shattered in the lightning, his body was pierced by golden arcs of electricity, and his rotting skin peeled away in the light.
“This…this is impossible!” Gorgraz’s voice was filled with horror and disbelief. “Your power…how could it be…”
Russell's golden arcs of electricity intertwined in the air, forming a massive pillar of light that shot straight at Gorgraz. The pillar pierced through the wizard's body, and the chaotic energy turned to ash in the light.
The psionic storm gradually dissipated, and Russell's body swayed precariously. His golden arcs of electricity flickered weakly, and the Bloodthirsty entrenching tool slipped from his hand.
"Russell!" Casal's voice came from afar, and the roar of the Thunderhawk gunboat's engines echoed in the air.
Russell's legs went weak, and he nearly fainted. His vision blurred, and he could only see Casal's figure approaching in the light.
"Hold on!" Casal's voice was tinged with anxiety. "We have to get out of here!"
Casal helped Russell up and carried him on his shoulder. The hatch of the Thunderhawk gunboat opened, and the White Scar warriors quickly boarded the gunboat.
"Arya, activate the psionic shield!" Casal's voice crackled through the communication channel. "We're evacuating!"
The roar of the Thunderhawk gunboat's engine suddenly intensified, and the gunboat shot into the sky like a bolt of lightning.
The hatch of the Thunderhawk gunship slowly closed, and Russell lay back in his seat, golden arcs of electricity flickering faintly around him. His breathing was rapid, but his eyes remained resolute.
"We... succeeded?" Russell's voice was hoarse but full of power.
Casal nodded, gripping the White Tiger Blade tightly in his hand: "Yes, we've retreated. But this battle... is not over yet."
Arya's psionic energy flowed around Russell, healing his wounds: "Your psionic energy is severely depleted and needs time to recover."
Russell closed his eyes, a bitter smile playing on his lips: "But as long as I'm alive... I'll definitely come back."
The Thunderhawk gunship traced a golden trail in the void before disappearing into the horizon of the starry sea.
…………
Malcolm's flagship's main guns were still glowing with dark red embers as his compound eyes stared at the fleeing Thunderhawk gunships in the holographic projection: "Unleash the Hell Dragons! I'll scatter the ashes of these prairie rats throughout the galaxy!"
Eight hell dragons burst forth from the warship's ventral gates. These warp creatures were covered in bronze scales, their backs bristling with blue-purple poisonous fire from the spikes protruding from them, and their bat-like wings whipped up corrosive hurricanes. They let out piercing screams and instantly caught up with the Whitescar fleet.
"Gunship Two, provide cover!" Casal's voice boomed through the communications channel. "The rest of the crew, disperse and execute the spiral evasion protocol!"
Gunship number two suddenly veered, its plasma engine overloaded and bursting forth with a blinding blue light. Pilot Haruk pushed the control stick all the way down: "For Chagatai Khan!" The gunship charged towards the flying dragons, its flank guns unleashing a barrage of bullets.
The fiery breath of the Hellfire Dragons collided with the gunboat's shields, exploding into bursts of phosphorescent light. One dragon was struck in the left wing, tumbling and crashing into the second gunboat. At the last moment, Haruk detonated the reactor, and the exploding metal fragments tore both dragons apart like a rain of blades.
“Haruk…” Arya’s psychic powers sensed the pilot’s dissipating soul, and blood seeped from the corner of her eye.
Russell slumped against the bulkhead of the Thunderhawk, forcibly gathering his remaining psionic energy and pressing his palm against the deck: "Give me... thirty seconds..."
Golden arcs of electricity traveled along the metal to the engine, tripling the Thunderhawk's speed. The three pursuing dragons were left behind, but the fourth seized the opportunity to bite the left wing.
"Arya!" Casal's White Tiger Blade cleaved through the bulkhead, its tip pointing at the dragon's eye. "Psionic interference with its senses!"
Arya plunged her ten fingers into her temples, and a psionic shriek flooded the dragon's brain. The instant the monster released its grip, Casal hurled his White Tiger Blade, piercing its throat with pinpoint accuracy.
As the last helldragon exploded in the void, the Whitescar fleet had already leaped into the warp channel. Malkarn's fist smashed the holographic platform, putrid blood spurting from the cracks in its carapace: "Tracking their warp trail! I'll turn that mortal's soul into a lantern!"
Inside the Thunderhawk cabin, Russell convulsed unconscious, golden arcs of electricity scorching the deck uncontrollably. Arya pressed the psionic suppressor to his chest and whispered, "You saved us... now it's our turn to save you."
Casal picked up the White Tiger Blade, its blade reflecting his blood-stained face: "Prepare for a warband meeting... This war has only just begun."
The pursuit of those who harbor words will not cease; they must find a new foothold as soon as possible.
