Chapter 11 Preparing for the Transfer
Chapter 11 Preparing for the Transfer
DAY7
They slept well for a day, and following Gu Nanfeng's instructions, they reorganized their luggage, each taking their identification documents, important files, a small amount of cash, and their mobile phones. They also each carried two power banks, a bottle of mineral water, and a loaf of bread. To make it seem like they were lacking water and food, they placed the water and bread under the balcony window and left the curtains slightly open to air them out for an afternoon, making the items look like they had been there for several days.
The official explanation was that Lu Yuan paid his father's medical bills, and since he didn't have money for the cafeteria, he bought a lot of small bread rolls. As for water, Pei Sihao, that little drama queen, insisted on drinking bottled water, so there was still some left in the dormitory.
Having made up their minds, they prepared to set off.
According to their plan, they only needed to go directly down to the underground parking garage, drive Gu Nanfeng's G-Wagon, and head straight for his villa in the university town villa area.
They drew up a detailed escape route based on the dormitory layout map and also thought of contingency plans for various emergencies. Just as they were wrapping each other's hands and feet with books and tape for protection, several muffled thuds sounded in the corridor, followed by a knock on their door.
Pei Sihao and Lu Yuan, who were still wrapping Wei Guo with tape, were immediately stunned. Gu Nanfeng gestured for them to calm down, and then they heard a quiet conversation coming from outside the door.
"I remember Senior Brother Gu is in this dorm. We didn't have an experiment that day, so he should have been in the dorm. In our building, only Senior Brother Gu and his roommate, Senior Brother Pei from the medical school, have Mercedes-Benz G-Class!"
"You've got a good grasp of things, haven't you!"
"I also heard that Senior Brother Gu lives a healthy life. He usually doesn't eat takeout, and he rarely eats in the cafeteria. He cooks for himself."
"So, the reason they're not opening the door is probably because they still have a lot of food..."
Before the last person could finish speaking, the door to dormitory 1203 opened. Inside were three people and a machine, fully armed and seemingly ready to escape. Outside the door was a six-person escape team that had gradually grown up from the 18th floor. Along the way, they had scavenged some supplies, mostly from empty dormitories. After all, without water and electricity, the male dormitories would probably choose to take a gamble and head to the shelter on their own.
So when Gu Nanfeng heard the first few conversations, he decided to open the door and abandon his G-Wagon.
"Senior Brother Gu!" The boys outside the door were initially startled, but quickly calmed down. After all, they hadn't said anything about rushing in to steal the car or food. It seemed that Gu Nanfeng and his group were also out of supplies and needed to find a way to leave the dormitory.
"Come in, why are you all so carefree? Didn't the broadcast say that zombie activity is lower at noon?" Gu Nanfeng quickly ushered them in. In the past few days, Lu Yuan had stored all their food scraps in his spatial storage, making the room look like the three of them hadn't eaten for days. Lu Yuan was tightly clutching his bread and water, looking more like a hamster guarding its food.
The three people in this dormitory didn't look like they hadn't eaten for days, except that they hadn't seen the sun for several days. But their weak appearance made them look like they hadn't eaten for days! Could it be that even if a handsome guy starved to death, he would still look better than ordinary people? The ten people who came in couldn't understand it at all.
"Senior Brother Gu, are you also going to the shelter?" As soon as they sat down, Ruan Wen, a junior brother who knew that Gu Nanfeng and Pei Sihao had a G-Wagon, asked.
"Yes, but we need to go to the supermarket in the shopping mall to find something to eat first, and then we can make further plans." Gu Nanfeng calmly stated their new plan without avoiding the question.
“It only takes a few tens of minutes to drive a G-Wagon from the school to the shelter, right? Do we really need to find food?” said a boy next to Ruan Wen who looked a bit rebellious. His voice sounded like the one who had his eye on their food. He was indeed a troublemaker.
The others also figured that Gu Nanfeng's dormitory had two G-Class cars, so with 10 people in one car and five people in each car, it would only take a few tens of minutes to get to the shelter.
Unfortunately, Gu Nanfeng and his group only had one G-Class, and they couldn't let these people know. He shook his head regretfully, "My car was sent for maintenance a few days ago. That idiot Pei Sihao lent his car to someone to show off. It was crashed yesterday at noon. Didn't you guys see it?"
This answer surprised Pei Sihao. Yesterday at noon was too exciting, and he didn't even realize that he had lent out that G-Class. He had really done all the work for someone else!
"What do we do then?" A petite-looking person in the six-person team suddenly spoke up, her voice sounding like she was about to cry. Only then did Pei Sihao realize that there were actually two girls among the six people, one delicate and the other with her head down, seemingly lost in thought.
There are roaming zombies in their building, and no one went out to rescue his girlfriend a few days ago. She must have been a girl in one of the dorms from the beginning. The younger students these days are really getting creative.
Gu Nanfeng noticed Pei Sihao's gaze. To prevent this idiot from saying anything inappropriate, he spoke first, "We don't have a car, so we plan to go and resupply food and water first, and then try to get to the shelter. But it's obvious that the convenience store downstairs is almost empty."
Gu Nanfeng pulled out a map of the underground parking garage and began to gesture. "I know there's a door in the underground garage that leads to the villa area's garage. That garage is completely enclosed, so there shouldn't be any zombies inside."
Lu Yuan was completely bewildered, but he forced himself to act as if this was their plan. He had gone to bed early last night and had no idea that the three of them had made a Plan B behind his back.
“There’s also a door from the villa area’s garage to the underground garage of the university town complex. And this door is right there…” Pei Sihao continued Gu Nanfeng’s words smugly, but was suddenly interrupted by Gu Nanfeng again.
"Are you the one to say it or me?" Gu Nanfeng's voice brought Pei Sihao back to his senses. He almost said something wrong, so he had to shut up and back away. He couldn't let anyone know that the supermarket was their family's property and that he had the key to the supermarket's warehouse.
“This door leads to the emergency exit of the supermarket on the first floor, and it’s also the staff entrance.” Gu Nanfeng pointed to a location on the map. “If the supermarket had activated its emergency measures and closed the doors as soon as the quarantine notice was broadcast, there should only be staff and a small number of customers inside. Even if everyone turned into zombies, we would still have a chance to escape or launch a counterattack.”
“Me! I work part-time at the supermarket. I walked through this employee entrance, and my employee card can open this door.” At this point, Ruan Wen excitedly said to the troublemaker, “You also said I brought a bunch of useless things.”
Pei Sihao was secretly delighted. He wouldn't have to reveal that he owned the supermarket anymore; he just needed to find an opportunity to take Lu Yuan to the warehouse. After all, food was a consumable item these days, and the more the better.
"Going to the supermarket is fine too. Senior Brother Gu's route seems safe, and at least we can eat our fill there." A seemingly composed young man in the six-person team spoke up. This was the first time he had spoken since entering the room, but everyone else nodded in agreement, suggesting he was the temporary leader of the team. The fact that everyone else was so obedient must mean something happened on their way down from the 18th floor.
