Chapter 982 left no clue whatsoever.
The next morning, a piercing phone rang in an FBI office in Massachusetts.
Matt, the person in charge, answered the phone and said, "Hello?"
"Detective Matt, this is Rhodes from the Equipment Research, Design and Engineering Center. Something's happened here!" The middle-aged man on the other end of the phone sounded panicked.
Matt quickly asked, "Mr. Rhodes, what exactly happened?"
“All the research data and design drawings for all the projects in our center have disappeared. The two guards who were on duty on the floor last night have also gone missing. We have contacted their families, but we still can’t find them!” Rhodes said urgently on the phone.
"What? Okay, I'll take some men over right away. You arrange for the other guards to protect the scene. Before we arrive, no one is allowed to enter the room where the design drawings and research materials are stored!" Matt said immediately.
"Okay, okay, I'll do it right away!"
After hanging up the phone, Matt immediately got up, walked to the wall, took down the belt and pistol hanging on the wall, tied them around his waist, put on a suit, and left the office.
"Hey guys, we've got a job. Everyone except those on duty, grab your weapons and reconnaissance equipment and come with me. Something's happened at the Equipment Research and Engineering Center. Hurry up, get downstairs and let's go!"
After Matt finished speaking, he turned and walked downstairs, and the others followed him after getting their guns and equipment.
Half an hour later, Matt and his team arrived at the entrance of the Equipment Research Center. Perhaps having been notified in advance, the gatekeeper quickly opened the gate upon seeing that it was an FBI vehicle. Several cars drove into the Equipment Research Center one after another, finally stopping in front of the building where the incident occurred.
Rhodes, the person in charge here, was already waiting downstairs. When he saw Matt and the others get out of the car, he immediately went up to them and said, "Matt, you've finally arrived. This is really big. All the weapon and equipment research and design data and blueprints of our Equipment Research and Engineering Center since its establishment have disappeared. If we can't find them, things will be really serious!"
Upon hearing this, Matt realized the seriousness of the situation and immediately said with a serious expression, "Take us to the scene!"
"Okay, please follow me!"
A few minutes later, Rhodes led Matt and the others to the outside of the research archives.
"This is the room. We keep all the test data and weapon design drawings from all our research projects over the years in this room. This morning, the custodian who came to work found that the door had been pried open and all the data and drawings were gone. He immediately reported it to me, and after I came to check, I called you."
After hearing this, Matt immediately arranged for people to go in and investigate, and collect clues.
"You two, go find the security guard and get the vehicle and personnel entry and exit registration information from last night."
"You two go and question the data custodian, and you two go to the missing guard's house and talk to his family to ask about the situation! Apart from the personnel who remain at the scene to investigate, the rest of you go and search the entire research center to see if you find any suspicious clues!"
Under Matt's arrangement and command, the agents he brought all got into work mode and went their separate ways.
Half an hour later, the team leader in charge of the on-site investigation reported to Matt: "Boss, the on-site investigation is basically complete. The door lock was forcibly and mechanically damaged, but no obvious shoe prints were found on the floor of the archives room, and no fingerprints were found on the drawers! No suspicious clues were found on any of the windows."
"This shows that the thieves who stole the documents and blueprints were experienced; their methods were extremely professional. If there were only one or two thieves, how did they manage to take away so much data? It's quite unbelievable!"
Matt frowned upon hearing this and turned to the person in charge, asking, "Mr. Rhodes, does this archive room need to be cleaned and wiped down every day?"
Rhodes replied, "Of course, these documents and drawings are extremely valuable, and it is the custodian's responsibility to protect them. Therefore, cleanliness, hygiene, dryness, and ventilation are always our top priorities."
"The custodian cleans the room every day and opens the windows for ventilation for an hour. When the weather is sunny, the drawers where documents and design drawings are stored are opened for ventilation for two hours every day. However, in order to keep the indoor air dry and prevent the documents and drawings from getting moldy due to dampness, all the drawers in the document room are equipped with desiccants and insecticide tablets, which are replaced every week!"
Just then, the detective who had gone to the gatekeeper to get the entry and exit register returned. He handed Matt a register and said, "Boss, this is the entry and exit record for everyone from yesterday to this morning! If the archives and blueprints were still there before we left work last night, then things are very strange, because from 6:45 pm last night, no one except the night shift staff left or came in!"
Matt took the register, glanced at it, and heard footsteps approaching.
The detective who had questioned the custodians approached Matt with the interrogation record and the two custodians. He reported, "Boss, these two are the custodians here. They said everything was normal when they left work yesterday evening, but when they came to work this morning, they found the door had been pried open and all the documents and blueprints were gone."
The agents who were sent to search returned one after another, each reporting that they had not found anything suspicious. However, the last one reported, "I found that the iron gate to the rooftop had been damaged, and the lock had been cut open!"
"Let's go and have a look!"
Two minutes later, the group arrived at the stairwell leading to the rooftop, panting heavily, and sure enough, they saw that the lock on the iron gate had been cut open.
"Hiss, what is this thing that can cut through such thick sheet metal?" an agent exclaimed in surprise.
The detective in charge of the investigation stepped forward for a closer look. He looked up and said, "Boss, judging from the shape of the cut edge, the edge protrudes inward. It's certain that someone was standing on the rooftop when they cut open the door lock and removed the bolt!"
"Look, the severed locking bolt is lying on the ground; it wasn't taken away!"
While Detective Matt and his team were investigating, Zhang Yunhe had already appeared outside Lockheed Martin.
At that moment, he was sitting in a car parked diagonally across the road from the Martin Company, observing the company's situation.
This company previously developed and manufactured the P-38 fighter jet, and is currently still working overtime to produce P-38 fighter jets.
Zhang Yunhe once purchased 100 P-38 fighter jets from James, and these jets are being deployed in large numbers to the Joker's Air Force.
Meanwhile, in a conference room in the Martin Company's office building, Army Air Forces Commander Carroll sat at the head of the table and spoke with Milo, one of the company's leaders.
He took a document from his assistant, handed it to Milo, and said, "Our Army Aviation needs a new fighter jet, and this fighter jet must be based on the engine design of the Halford H1B!"
Milo took the documents and glanced through them, then exclaimed in surprise, "This fighter jet is required to be jet-powered? Not propeller-driven?"
"Yes, if you take on this project and your design meets our standards, this fighter jet will be named P-80, and it will be our first jet fighter!"
After reviewing the information, Milo said to Carol, "General, we'll take this project. We'll come up with a design plan as soon as possible!"
"Once your proposal is adopted, you must deliver the first fighter jet within 180 days!"
