Chapter 626 Oda Taro's Speculation
Chapter 626 Oda Taro's Speculation
In Edo, heavy snow was still falling at night, and there were very few pedestrians and vehicles on the streets.
A black car drove over the snow on the street and arrived at the doorstep of Metropolitan Superintendent Hisanao Hamaguchi.
After the car stopped, a young policeman in a black uniform and a wide-brimmed hat got out from the passenger seat and opened the back door. The director of the Criminal Bureau, Taro Oda, got out of the car wearing a woolen uniform coat and holding a brown paper document bag.
When they reached the door, Oda Taro said to the two guards standing at the door, "Please inform Commander Hamaguchi that Oda Taro wishes to see you!"
"Please wait a moment, Lord Oda. I will go and inform you right away!" said the guard on the left and turned and walked into the yard.
Not long after, the guard came out and asked Oda Taro to come in.
It was freezing outside, but the house was warm as spring. Oda Taro felt better as soon as he entered the house and took off his coat and handed it to the servant.
"Sir, Director Oda is here!" The guard standing outside the door reported to the room.
A voice came from inside the room: "Come in!"
"Hayi!"
The door was opened, Oda Taro walked in, and the door was then closed again.
Oda Taro came to an old man with short gray hair and wearing a black kimono and bowed his head and said, "I'm sorry to disturb you and your family's rest by visiting me at night!"
Hamaguchi pressed his hand: "Sit down and talk!"
"Hayi!"
Hamaguchi Hisanao poured a cup of tea in front of Oda Taro and made a gesture of invitation.
Oda Taro bowed repeatedly in thanks, saying, "I'm sorry to bother you so late at night, sir, because I'm investigating the recent reports of bodies falling from the sky in various locations!"
"Oh? Has the investigation reached a conclusion? Tell me quickly!" Hamaguchi Hisanao immediately perked up and asked after hearing that.
"Yes, sir!" Oda Taro said as he took out the report from the document bag and handed it over with both hands. "So far, the bodies of soldiers and officers who fell from the sky have been found in various places. It is very likely that there are more bodies in remote areas or in the mountains and forests that have not been found!"
"Most of these bodies were so bloody and mangled they were difficult to identify and verify. However, some bodies had only their bodies and limbs smashed, but their heads and faces were still intact. After taking photos and examining the nameplates and officer IDs on the bodies, we concluded that these soldiers were all from the Kita Division!"
"What? These 20,000+ corpses are all from the Kita Division?" Hamaguchi Hisanao straightened up in shock and asked in a lost voice.
Oda Taro replied, "Yes, sir!"
"Wasn't the Kita Division sent to China to fight two years ago? How could they just drop down from the sky?" Hamaguchi Hisanao asked with a shocked look of confusion on his face.
Oda Taro replied, "This is also what puzzles me. What on earth could have caused these 20,000 people from far away China to suddenly fall from the sky and return dead?"
"We sent people to perform autopsies on these bodies and discovered something horrifying: these people had died long before they fell from the sky, and they had died from poison gas bombs!"
"What? He died of poison gas a long time ago? Are you sure?" Hamaguchi Hisanao was shocked again.
"Ha!" Oda Taro pointed at the report and said, "We've already asked professionals who specialize in poison gas research to confirm it. The autopsy report is here!"
Hamaguchi Hisanao quickly turned his attention to the report.
A few minutes later, Hamaguchi Hisanao's face became more solemn than ever. He raised his head and said in a heavy voice, "This matter is too big, too incredible. How many people know the details of this matter?"
Oda Taro quickly said, "Everyone in the investigation team knows about this, but please rest assured, sir, I have ordered a blockade of the news. They cannot reveal a single word to anyone without permission!"
Hamaguchi Hisanao was very satisfied with Oda Taro's handling of the situation. He nodded and then continued, "It now appears that the Kita Division fighting in China is completely finished, and they all died from poison gas. With such a large-scale poison gas casualty, the Chinese army couldn't have poison gas bombs. So where did the poison gas bombs that killed the Kita Division come from? Why do you think the people of the Kita Division suddenly fell from the sky?"
Oda Taro seemed to have considered these questions long ago. He replied, "I don't know where the poison gas bombs that killed the Kita Division came from. After all, we are a criminal department and have no connection with the military. We are not familiar with biological and chemical gas research. I think this question should be asked to the China Expeditionary Army Headquarters!"
"I suspect something caused the Kita Division's stockpiled poison gas bombs to explode while they were on the march or camping. Perhaps it was late at night, when most officers and soldiers were asleep, and the poison gas spread, preventing them from waking up. If it were any other reason, so many people wouldn't have died. If they had seen the poison gas bomb explode, wouldn't they have run?"
"Well, your speculation makes sense, go on!" Hamaguchi Hisanao nodded and raised his hand.
"Ha!" Oda Taro bowed his head and agreed, continuing, "They were fighting in China, but their bodies suddenly returned, falling from the sky in different locations. I think a natural phenomenon like a tornado or a storm might have blown their bodies back after their deaths. Besides this explanation, I can't think of any other possibility. After all, there are over 20,000 bodies. How could human power accomplish this?"
Hamaguchi Hisanao stroked Danren's beard and nodded in agreement: "That makes sense!"
He thought for a moment and said, "This matter is of great importance. Although it is late now, we must report it to the Minister of the Interior, His Excellency Mr. Mi Nai, immediately. You come with me!"
"Hayi!"
After changing his clothes, Hamaguchi Hisanao immediately took Oda Taro out. Both of them sat in Hamaguchi Hisanao's car, and Oda Taro's car followed behind.
There are fewer pedestrians and vehicles on the streets, and you can often hear coughing when you meet pedestrians.
As the car passed the streets in front of three hospitals, Hamaguchi Hisanao saw that the hospitals were all brightly lit and crowded. He couldn't help but wonder, "Why are there so many people seeking medical treatment in these hospitals at this time? It's not like this normally!"
Oda Taro said casually: "Maybe the weather is too cold these days, and many people don't pay attention to keeping warm, so they caught a cold!"
After hearing what Oda Taro said, Hamaguchi Hisanao no longer paid attention to this matter.
The two of them soon arrived at the Prime Minister's Mansion and met Minei.
Minai saw the two and asked, "It's so late, what's the matter with you coming to see me?"
