Chapter 35: Huawei Acknowledges! The Appointment Time
On their way to the parking lot, the two walked side by side. Shen Fei is 1.83 meters tall, and Zhang Mingzhu is about 1.65 meters tall; they looked quite harmonious walking together.
"I heard from Uncle Shen that you started a business in Guangzhou." Seeing that the atmosphere was a bit strange, Zhang Mingzhu took the initiative to speak.
"I guess so, I took over the family business," Shen Fei replied. "It mainly focuses on the mobile phone business in Africa. We've already secured contracts in more than 10 countries, and are working on others."
"Transsion Technology, I've looked it up." She spoke frankly, while a hint of a fangirl flashed in her eyes—not a deliberate attempt to flatter, but a genuine expression of affection.
"At your press conference in Nigeria, our college's professor of communication even used it as a case study, saying that it was a typical example of reverse innovation."
First conquer the peripheral markets, then counterattack the mainstream markets. Even if the mainstream markets fail, there's always a way out.
Seeing the girl's fangirl tone, Shen Fei was somewhat surprised. It wasn't just the attitude, but also the direction: "You guys are researching this too."
"I studied sociology, but I'm very interested in business cases." Zhang Mingzhu pushed up her glasses and patted him on the shoulder, instantly closing the distance between them.
Shen Fei seemed to feel that his preparations were somewhat unnecessary...
"Especially for Chinese companies going global, it involves culture and the customs of the overseas destinations, which is very interesting."
As they spoke, the two walked to the car. Shen Fei was driving a black Audi A6, which wasn't flashy, but the features were indeed quite good.
He gently opened the passenger door, let Zhang Mingzhu sit down, and then opened the trunk to put the luggage in the back.
"Where is the hotel booked?" he asked.
"The Garden Hotel in Yuexiu District, arranged by the school for the competition." Zhang Mingzhu looked around and then gave an address.
Shenfei started the car and drove off the airport expressway.
In Guangzhou in November, the weather was still hot, and the air conditioning in the car was turned up high.
"Actually..." Shen Fei glanced at the passenger seat. "My parents want you to live at home. They have an old house in Liwan, which is usually empty, but someone cleans it every week. It's not far from Yuexiu District where you'll be competing."
A faint blush appeared on Zhang Mingzhu's face. Although she was usually quite generous, she quickly said, "It's too much of a hassle at home. A hotel is more convenient."
"I live alone in that house," Shen Fei added. "I'm currently at the company and rarely come here. If you feel uncomfortable staying in a hotel, you can come and take a look. The environment is quite nice, the neighborhood is quiet, and the security is good."
Shen Fei's words were very clever; they expressed his sincerity without offending Zhang Mingzhu.
Zhang Mingzhu was silent for a moment, then said softly, "Let's go to the hotel first. I'm going with a few classmates, and we might need to discuss something tonight."
"Okay." Shen Fei didn't insist anymore, after all, Zhang Mingzhu's main task on this trip was to participate in the competition. It would be irresponsible to his teammates if his performance was affected because of him.
As the car entered the city, the two chatted casually.
Zhang Mingzhu speaks clearly and knows a lot, but she doesn't show off too much in front of him; Shen Fei can respond to every word he says, which makes him feel like he has found a kindred spirit, a feeling he has been looking forward to.
The atmosphere gradually warmed up, and Shen Fei explained to her why he chose Africa.
After learning the specific reasons, Zhang Mingzhu could no longer hide her admiring gaze.
"Oh, I see. That's really difficult. I hope I can help you in the future."
Shen Fei's heart suddenly skipped a beat, and a smile gradually appeared on his face.
It was already past 3 p.m. when we arrived at the hotel.
Shen Fei helped her carry her luggage to the lobby: "Do you have any plans for tonight? If not, we can grab some dinner. There are a few well-established restaurants in Guangzhou that are pretty good."
Zhang Mingzhu glanced at her phone: "It should be fine before 7 o'clock... but wouldn't that be too much trouble for you?"
"No trouble at all, I'll be staying in Guangzhou for another two days anyway," Shen Fei said. "I'll pick you up at 5:30."
"Okay." She nodded, her smile still gentle and beautiful: "Thank you."
After watching her enter the elevator, Shen Fei returned to his car but did not leave.
Zhang Mingzhu was more...comfortable than he had expected. She wasn't stunningly beautiful, but she was pleasing to the eye. She spoke politely, was knowledgeable without being pretentious, and had her own opinions without being domineering.
She is indeed the kind of virtuous wife who can "keep the household in order," and she's exactly the type he likes...
Based on today's feedback, it seems this blind date is a sure thing.
Just as he was about to drive away, his phone rang again; it was Huang Tianya calling.
"Old Master Ren agreed. Next Monday at 10 a.m., at the Shenzhen headquarters of the electronics factory."
He wants to know more about us.
Shen Fei thought for a moment and replied: "Send him the information about Transsion, and also the technical documents for T1 and Power Max, as well as the sales data for Africa."
And most importantly, send over a summary of the Mount Tai project. Just a summary is fine; keep the core technologies confidential for now.
Starting the car, Shen Fei glanced at the tall buildings. With no more barriers in matters of the heart, the rest was just a matter of going with the flow.
The most important thing at hand is still to acquire Huawei's terminals.
The business suite is located on the 16th floor of the Garden Hotel.
Zhang Mingzhu had just finished showering and was sitting by the window drying her hair, wearing a hotel bathrobe.
As a major coastal province, its economic development is indeed better, and its night scene is brightly lit, which is completely different from the heavy atmosphere of the north.
After admiring the view for a while, my phone rang. It was a video call from my best friend, Lin Wei.
After the call connected, a meticulously made-up face appeared on the screen. "Mingzhu Baobao has arrived in Guangzhou! How are you? Are you adjusting to the southern weather?"
"It's alright, just a bit damp," Zhang Mingzhu smiled. "Have you set off yet?"
"Not yet, we have an early flight tomorrow. Oh, by the way..."
Lin Wei suddenly lowered her voice, her eyes darting around, full of gossip. "I heard from my aunt that you're going on a blind date. The guy is a local from Guangnan Province, and it seems like you two are childhood sweethearts."
So he was my childhood sweetheart. No wonder he abandoned us all and ran off first.
Zhang Mingzhu blushed: "Weiwei, don't talk nonsense. What blind date? What childhood sweetheart?"
He's just the son of an elder in the family; we'll meet up casually.
"Come on, someone of Uncle Zhang's level, someone who can get him to speak up personally, must be extraordinary." Lin Wei's gossip instincts were completely ignited.
"Have you seen him? What does he look like? What's he like? What is he doing?"
"I've met him... He picked me up from the airport this afternoon." Zhang Mingzhu hesitated for a moment. "His name is Shen Fei. He's a bit dull, mainly because he seems a little reserved, but he becomes a completely different person when it comes to work."
My job is in the mobile phone industry, at Transsion Holdings.
