Chapter 14 : Speculation
Chapter 14 : Speculation
SpeculationIn the bustling arena lobby, a player was suddenly teleported in. His eyes were empty and he stood there dazed, as if he had lost his soul.
Judging from his appearance and equipment, he was the assassin who had just been instantly killed by Gu Yanxi with a single Divine Healing.
He stood there in a trance for quite a while before finally opening up his faint blue personal panel to glance at his record. The previous streak of nineteen wins had been broken, and the glaring red "-1" was especially conspicuous.
Are you kidding me? I got one-shotted by a priest?
Just as he was beginning to question his life choices, another familiar swordsman player happened to be teleported out as well. When the swordsman saw the assassin, he quickly walked over with a smile and patted him on the shoulder.
"Hey brother, did you get your twentieth consecutive win? I think I only need two more to get promoted too."
However, the assassin just maintained his blank, listless expression, without replying for a long time.
"What's wrong? Don't tell me you lost your win streak?"
Seeing the assassin's almost tearful expression, the swordsman was taken aback and quickly thought of another possibility.
"You lost?"
Only then did the assassin gradually recover from his psychological trauma. He helplessly nodded, a wry smile on his face.
"Your equipment looks great. At this stage, all the top players have gone up to Bronze or Silver, so how could you possibly queue up with someone unbeatable in the Porcelain tier? What class was your opponent?"
If he hadn't mentioned it, it would have been fine. But the moment he thought of that silhouette shrouded in black light, the assassin's composure completely collapsed.
"Don't ask. You definitely won't believe it, even if I told you."
"Is there something I wouldn't believe?"
The swordsman narrowed his eyes in curiosity and pressed him:
"Come on, just say it. Even if you said you matched with Cecilia, I'd still believe you."
"It wasn't Cecilia. This was my twentieth match for the win streak, and I matched with a girl priest who was clearly a total newbie. I figured this was a sure win, so I thought I'd mess with her, maybe let her have three moves first. But then..."
At this point, the assassin choked on his words.
"So, you lost and she crowd-controlled you to death with three skills? I've heard there are priests who specialize in CC builds—those are pretty rough," the swordsman guessed, thinking the assassin was being mysterious.
"No, she one-shotted me with a single skill."
The assassin gritted his teeth and finally said it out loud.
"Huh?"
The swordsman was stunned too. What, was the arena picking on priests now? Was this some kind of new joke? Getting killed in one hit by a priest? Who would believe it?
"Did you get hit on the head and mistake a mage for a priest? Mages use short staves, priests use long staves. You can't possibly not know that after all this time?"
If it were a fire mage geared entirely for high DPS, maybe they could pull off a one-shot with one skill.
But a priest? That was just way too absurd.
"Damn it, I knew you wouldn't believe me! How could I not tell the difference between a mage and a priest? Here, just look for yourself."
With that, the assassin impatiently pulled the swordsman over and opened his record panel.
The panel clearly displayed the result of the match, the time it took, and both players' classes.
"Damn, it really was a priest!"
The match lasted only 37 seconds, player number 4903, and the class column clearly displayed the word "priest."
The swordsman couldn't help but curse in shock.
He also noticed that the priest's previous record was zero, which meant she truly was a newbie just playing her first arena match, and had only won that one game so far.
"See, I wasn't lying, right? She even seemed to be learning her skills on the fly in the ring."
"That's messed up..."
The two muttered in low voices as the record panel's numbers suddenly changed again.
"The second victim just appeared," the assassin said with a bitter smile.
The swordsman thought he heard wrong and quickly looked at the panel. Sure enough, the 4903 player's win total had jumped from 1 to 2.
In just the few sentences they'd spoken, that newbie girl priest had taken down another opponent. At that moment, the swordsman finally believed the assassin's story.
He truly had been instantly killed by a single skill from that priest.
In the minds of arena players, only the enigmatic Cecilia was capable of instantly killing an opponent the moment a match started.
Could it be that the arena was about to see a second Cecilia?
"This is huge! I'm logging out to post this on the forum!"
The assassin suddenly became excited and rushed to exit the game.
However, the swordsman grabbed his arm. "Hold on. Maybe she just got lucky. Let's see how many games in a row she can win."
"You're right."
So the two of them stayed in the lobby, watching as player 4903 kept winning match after match.
Basically, every match ended within ten seconds of starting.
......
Meanwhile, in the most prominent spot in the lobby, Cecilia and Yuewu were also quietly watching Gu Yanxi's progress.
"That's six wins in a row. How is she doing this?"
Seeing Gu Yanxi take another win, Yuewu asked in disbelief.
As the captain of a team, Yuewu had trained several priests herself and knew just how weak the class truly was.
When out grinding in the wild, if they didn't have teammates to protect them, an eighth-level priest might not even be able to beat a fifth-level monster alone.
Cecilia didn't know how to explain it to Yuewu either. After hesitating for a moment, she maintained her cool, expressionless demeanor and said two words:
"Talent."
"Oh..."
Yuewu wisely shut her mouth.
After more than a week of acquaintance, Yuewu had gradually figured out Cecilia's personality.
Cecilia always wore a blank expression, almost like a walking doll, and her tone of voice carried a chilly distance that tended to intimidate strangers.
However, once you spent more time with her, it was clear Cecilia wasn't cold at all—in fact, she could be quite generous and helpful.
If you showed her even a little kindness, ran some errands for her or helped her gather materials, when the time was right, she would repay you three, five, or even tenfold.
Moreover, she seemed to care a lot about how people around her saw her...
Thinking of this, Yuewu couldn't help but glance quietly at the petite silver-haired girl beside her.
Sure enough, even though she seemed calm and focused on the record panel at the moment, her tightly clenched fists and slightly-inward-turned knees betrayed her true feelings...
In real life, Cecilia... must be a very shy little girl...
Just thinking about this, Yuewu's lips curled up into a small smile.
She's just too cute.
