Chapter 654 Dawn (60)
Chapter 654 Dawn (60)
The next day, Yan Zhen went to the hospital as usual after school.
When she entered the ward, Chu Huian was talking to a middle-aged woman in a suit. The conversation stopped abruptly the moment she pushed open the ward door.
The middle-aged woman was very perceptive. Seeing that Chu Huian's expression had become less than pleasant after Yan Zhen entered, she immediately stood up and said, "Ms. Chu, let's leave it at that for today. If you have any questions later, you can contact me on WeChat."
Chu Huian nodded: "Okay, thank you for your help."
After the woman left, Chu Huian looked at Yan Zhen. Although her expression was unfriendly, her words were not as unrestrained and emotional as before: "What are you doing here?"
"Just visiting you," Yan Zhen said casually. "Was that lady a lawyer?"
Chu Huian paused slightly, but did not answer directly: "It has nothing to do with you."
Yan Zhen asked himself, "Have you finally made up your mind to divorce Yan Yi?"
Chu Huian: "..."
"He said he would only give you 20% of the property."
Chu Huian stared at Yan Zhen, whose expression was inscrutable, for a long time before asking, "What do you mean? Do you want me to divorce Yan Yi or not?"
Yan Zhen shrugged: "I don't care."
"Then why are you asking so many questions?"
Yan Zhen frankly said, "I need to figure out who is richer after your divorce so I can decide who to be close to."
Chu Huian: "..."
She really wanted to say that if she died one day, she would donate her entire estate and not give it to Yan Zhen.
But remembering how fiercely Yan Zhen had tried to smother her yesterday, she ultimately held back.
Yan Zhen didn't stay long and quickly left the hospital.
After leaving the hospital, she pondered for a while at the hospital entrance, then turned and walked into a nearby pharmacy.
A few minutes later, Yan Zhen came out with a small bottle of medicine and then hailed a taxi.
"Go to Jinxiu Garden."
Jinxiu Garden is Yan Yi's residence; he usually lives there.
Upon arriving at Jinxiu Garden, Yan Zhen rang the doorbell. Yan Yi, who opened the door, was wearing an apron and had his shirt rolled up to his arm. Yan Zhen was taken aback by his casual, homely appearance.
This was the first time she had ever seen Yan Yi so "down-to-earth" in both her previous and current lives.
"Why are you here?" Yan Yi asked, one hand gripping the carved iron gate, showing no intention of inviting Yan Zhen in.
"I came to see you." Yan Zhen was still carrying her schoolbag. After saying this, she bent down and crawled under Yan Yi's arm, not giving Yan Yi a chance to refuse her visit.
Yan Yi: "..."
Yan Zhen was somewhat surprised when he entered the two-story villa.
The yard is planted with blue plumbago, and it's clear that the owner takes great care of it. The upright herbaceous plant has lignified into a lush blue plumbago tree, which is in full bloom this season.
The villa wasn't large, but it was decorated simply yet warmly. Yan Zhen walked into the living room and found that there were no slippers for guests to change into in the shoe cabinet in the entryway. The only pair of slippers was being worn by Yan Yi.
This house is Yan Yi's private territory, and there is no other owner.
Yan Zhen decided not to change it and threw his schoolbag on the sofa as soon as he entered the living room.
The open kitchen is visible from the living room. Half-washed cherry tomatoes and asparagus sit on the island, while a steak is frying in a frying pan. The air is filled with the aroma of rosemary.
Yan Yi, who came in next, saw Yan Zhen staring at the kitchen and casually asked, "Have you eaten?"
"No."
"Then order some takeout."
Yan Zhen turned his gaze to Yan Yi.
Yan Yi shrugged: "I don't have much food at home."
"Row."
Yan Zhen took out his phone to search for nearby takeout options, while Yan Yi returned to the kitchen to continue cooking.
Half an hour later, Yan Yi and Yan Zhen sat facing each other. On one side of the table was a fragrant steak and vegetable salad, and on the other side were fried chicken, cola, and hamburgers.
The father and daughter ate separately, and neither interfered with the other.
Yan Yi ate half of his meal and asked Yan Zhen, "Did Chu Huian send you?"
Yan Zhen did not answer, neither confirming nor denying.
Yan Yi took her attitude as tacit agreement and sneered, "You want me to be your mediator and persuade me not to get a divorce?"
Before Yan Zhen could reply, he added, "That's impossible. You're wasting your time."
Yan Zhen sighed and put on a peacemaker's act: "We've been married for so many years, does it have to end up like this?"
Yan Yi narrowed his eyes at her: "You don't seem like the type to plead for Chu Huian. Tell me, what did she give you in return?"
Yan Zhen considered for a moment and said, "She wants me to help her get more benefits, since her things will be mine in the future, but yours may not be mine."
Yan Yi frowned: "What are her conditions?"
The property will be divided equally.
Yan Yi slammed down his knife and fork, his face icy: "Go back and tell her she's too greedy. I'll make sure she gets nothing."
Yan Zhen was not surprised by Yan Yi's reaction and nodded, "Okay, I will tell her."
After finishing their meal, Yan Yi went to the kitchen to clear the dishes.
Yan Zhen wandered around the villa for a while, then went up to the second floor.
The villa only had three rooms. Yan Zhen found the master bedroom, rummaged through the bedside table drawer and found a small medicine bottle. He replaced the medicine in the bottle with the medicine he had bought himself.
After doing all that, she calmly went downstairs.
After cleaning up the kitchen, Yan Yi came out and bluntly told him to leave: "You should go now. Do you want me to call you a taxi?"
"No, I'll go by myself."
Yan Zhen picked up his schoolbag and walked out of the small villa.
Yan Yi escorted Yan Zhen to the door, watching her leave without looking back. He frowned, feeling that something was amiss.
Yan Zhen is not the type to help Chu Huian persuade him to divide the property equally, or even to avoid divorce.
In her eyes, whether her parents divorced or not had no impact on her whatsoever.
So what was her purpose in coming here today and saying a few indifferent words?
With a sense of doubt, Yan Yi turned and went into the living room.
He took a bottle of water from the refrigerator, sat down on the sofa in the living room, and habitually opened his tablet to browse the news. However, a pop-up window appeared in the lower right corner of the tablet, reminding him that the surveillance camera installed in the study had detected an unregistered face ten minutes ago.
The study contained many important documents, and Yan Yi installed a high-precision surveillance camera at the door.
Yan Yi immediately opened the surveillance footage. Ten minutes earlier, Yan Zhen had opened his study door, peeked inside, and then closed the door.
—Yan Zhen went upstairs without his permission while he was washing dishes in the kitchen.
Yan Yi immediately became alert.
He put down his tablet and hurried upstairs to the second floor. After checking everything, he discovered that the pills in the bedside table drawer had been switched.
Due to long-term high-pressure work and drinking at social events, Yan Yi was diagnosed with high blood pressure and heart problems a few years ago. Now he needs to take medication every day and always carries nitroglycerin tablets with him.
Yan Zhen switched his medicine; isn't that tantamount to murder?
Was it Chu Huian who instructed her to do this?
Realizing this, Yan Yi's face turned ashen.
He turned and hurried downstairs, chasing after the direction Yan Zhen had left in.
