Inviting the Moon to the Farmhouse

Chapter 70 Return the sachet to me.

Chapter 70 Return the sachet to me.

In the evening, Acheng pushed open the door and came in. He saw that the door to the west room was open and Xia Yao was sitting at the table, so he went in.

"Cousin, are all the children here today?" Acheng asked.

"Hmm," Xia Yao looked at A-Cheng, put down his book, and stood up. "You gave A-Yue a sachet?"

"Um..." Acheng stammered, "Yeah, what's wrong?"

"Heh," Xia Yao sneered, then his expression turned serious. "Don't you hate her?!"

"Ah, that's right. She brought me food for several days. I don't hate it anymore."

Xia Yao lowered his eyes, deep in thought.

Acheng seemed to sense that he had something to say and asked, "What's wrong?"

"What do you mean by giving her a sachet?" Xia Yao asked bluntly.

Acheng didn't expect him to be so direct. "What could it mean? It's just... I heard from Aniu that she can't stand the smell of the countryside, so I sent it to her."

"Heh, you're quite thoughtful."

"Hehe, it's alright," Acheng said, scratching his head.

"You're not allowed to send them anymore," Xia Yao said firmly.

Acheng was stunned. "Why?"

Xia Yao said in a warning tone, "You'll be in trouble if you mess with this woman."

"Hmph," Acheng snorted coldly, "I don't believe it, what kind of logic is that?"

Xia Yao sighed helplessly, "Just do as I say."

"If you want me to do what you say, you have to tell me why!"

“There’s no reason, just remember what I said,” Xia Yao said.

Acheng walked away, looking unconvinced.

At dinner, Xia Yao still had a stern face, and A-Cheng, seeing that he looked unwell, became much quieter.

“Pangao, Ayue gave me three hundred coins today. I said I wouldn’t accept it, but she insisted. Isn’t she so kind?” Xia Huifang said to Xia Yao.

"Ah Yue, you're too kind. There's no need for that," Xia Yao said, then immediately changed the subject. "Ah Yue, what kind of flower does this sachet smell like? It smells quite nice."

Xia Lanyue was still thinking about the previous topic and was a little confused by his sudden change of topic. "Ah, I really don't know. It was given to me by Acheng." Xia Lanyue looked at Acheng and asked, "What kind of flower is this, Acheng?"

"I don't know either, I just know it smells really good," Acheng said.

Upon hearing this, everyone present, except for Xia Yao, was taken aback.

Xia Huifang looked slightly anxious and said to Xia Lanyue, "Acheng just wanted to thank Ayue for working hard delivering meals these past few days. He didn't mean anything else, haha."

Xia Lanyue nodded in agreement.

But Dai You didn't seem to accept this explanation, which was evident from his slightly angry eyes.

Xia Lanyue didn't understand what had happened, and she didn't want to ask directly, so she just lowered her head and ate the rice in her bowl.

After dinner, everyone went back to their rooms.

Dai You cleverly entered Xia Lanyue's room and asked, "Why did you take his sachet?"

“He gave it to me and walked away, so I… just accepted it. What’s wrong? If you’re unhappy, I’ll give it back to him,” Xia Lanyue said tentatively.

“Give it back to him,” Dai You said decisively.

Xia Lanyue was taken aback. It was just a sachet, not worth much. While thinking about it, she reluctantly took it off her waist and held it in her hand. Just as she was about to smell it again, Dai You snatched it away.

Xia Lanyue was startled. She could tell that Dai You was really angry, and she didn't dare to say a word.

Dai You took the sachet and walked out of the house, heading straight to the west room.

Xia Lanyue peered through the crack in the door at the situation in the courtyard. There was no argument as she had imagined; the courtyard was quiet except for the chirping of cicadas.

Not long after, someone knocked on Xia Lanyue's door.

Xia Lanyue ran over and opened the door; it was Xia Huifang!

Xia Lanyue was a little surprised and stepped forward to invite her into the house.

"Ah Yue, your aunt hasn't been to your room for a long time. I haven't come to check on you lately. How are you doing here? Is there anything you need?" Xia Huifang asked Xia Lanyue as soon as she entered the room.

"I'm fine, I don't need anything, Auntie."

"Ah, ah," Xia Huifang's eyes glanced at Xia Lanyue's waist, "That's good."

"Did Aunt Xia need something from me?" Xia Lanyue asked.

"Nothing much, I've just been busy lately and haven't paid attention to you, so I came to visit today since I had some free time," Xia Huifang said, glancing around the room before her gaze fell on the candied fruit on the table.

"Auntie, please don't say that..."

"Oh, is this Jiaqingzi?!" Xia Huifang interrupted Xia Lanyue, saying in surprise, "This is so hard to buy! I only had it once during the New Year at Village Chief Zhao's house. Where did you buy it?" Xia Huifang turned to look at Xia Lanyue.

“It was a gift from a friend,” Xia Lanyue said. “If Aunt Xia likes it, then take it and eat it.”

"Ah Yue has only been here a few days and already has such amazing friends," Xia Huifang said, glancing at the candied fruit as she spoke.

Xia Lanyue noticed that Xia Huifang was a little embarrassed, so she went over, picked up the lotus leaf, and handed it to Xia Huifang, saying, "Aunt Xia, please eat, don't be shy."

“I haven’t eaten the citrons you gave me yet,” Xia Huifang said, reaching out to take a few. “I’ll just take a few.”

“Okay, Aunt Xia can come to the house to get it if she wants to eat it.”

"Sigh," Xia Huifang responded, then suddenly changed the subject, "Where's A-Yue's sachet? Why isn't she carrying it?"

Xia Lanyue paused for a moment, then said apologetically, "I gave it back to Acheng."

Xia Huifang laughed upon hearing this, "Oh, hehe, my nephew sometimes acts without thinking, please don't mind him."

Xia Lanyue nodded, "No, no," Xia Lanyue truly didn't mind.

After seeing Xia Huifang out, Xia Lanyue glanced back at the candied fruit on the table, picked one up, and popped it into her mouth. She hadn't eaten any since she brought them back; perhaps because she wasn't fond of candied fruit, Xia Lanyue found it too sweet.

"Bang, bang, bang," someone knocked on the door again.

Xia Lanyue walked over, opened the door and said, "Xia..." but her words trailed off as Dai You stood outside.

"Xia what?!"

"Aunt Xia came by just now. I thought she came back to get some candied fruit," Xia Lanyue stepped aside, and Dai You walked in. His complexion was a little better than before.

"Would you like some candied fruit?" Xia Lanyue asked, pointing to Jiaqingzi on the table.

Dai You glanced at it, then shook his head. "Do you know what giving a sachet as a gift means?"

"do not know."

"Then why are you still accepting it?"

"A sachet, a sachet, of course we collect it because of its fragrance, what else could it be for?"

Dai You sighed helplessly, and seeing her like this, he lost his temper and shook his head, "Don't accept things that are easy to misunderstand in the future."

Xia Lanyue remained nonchalant, fiddling with the hem of her clothes without saying a word.

Seeing her like this, Dai You asked solemnly, "Did you hear me?!"

"Ah, I know," Xia Lanyue replied perfunctorily.

Seeing her attitude, Dai You sighed and then took out a sandalwood hairpin from his pocket.

"Wow, for me?" Xia Lanyue saw the hairpin and, without giving Dai You a chance to speak, snatched it from his hand, put it in her hair, turned around and went to the mirror on the table. She looked at herself and didn't forget to praise, "You have good taste, it looks great."

Xia Lanyue took the hairpin off and examined it closely in her hands. Although it was also made of wood, it felt much better than the one he had given her before. "Did you make this?"

"Ah."

Xia Lanyue looked at the hairpin and noticed that it was different from the one she wore. "The craftsmanship is really good. Is this the style you wanted?"

"Ah."

"Tsk tsk, you're tall, skilled, and reliable, how come you still haven't gotten married? They're so clueless, no, so blind," Xia Lanyue said, then looked up at Dai You, only to see his face had darkened even more. "Brother, don't worry, I'll definitely help you find a good girl when I get back. What kind do you like..."

Before she could finish speaking, Dai You rolled his eyes at her and went back into the house.
