Inviting the Moon to the Farmhouse

Chapter 67 Unexpected Guest

Chapter 67 Unexpected Guest

Xia Lanyue jogged to the outside of the courtyard, where Jiang Di was waiting for him.

"How did you know I was looking for you? I went to Manager Wang's place today, but I forgot it's an odd-numbered day and he wasn't there. I didn't expect you to come. We're so in sync!" Xia Lanyue started talking non-stop as soon as they met.

Jiang Di lowered her head and smiled, "Did Li Si cause you any trouble later?"

“No, he left and never came back. But a Chen Xiang came. He said he was from the neighborhood committee or something. Who is he?” Xia Lanyue asked.

“He’s the street supervisor, in charge of the security and sanitation of that area and tax collection. You can contact him if you need anything,” Jiang Di said.

"I had already packed up my stall when he arrived. If it weren't for an older woman telling him about my situation, he wouldn't have known what happened. With this kind of efficiency, we can't really count on him if something really happens," Xia Lanyue said, pouting.

"Where is your brother? You were bullied, why is he nowhere to be seen?"

"Shh," Xia Lanyue hurriedly made a shushing gesture and glanced back at the yard. "He's helping out at the pharmacy in town. I didn't tell him about this, so don't let him hear it either."

Why are you protecting him?

“With my brother’s physique, taking on two Li Sis wouldn’t be a problem. I was afraid of hurting him and then him blaming me. I wouldn’t even want to say another word to the kind of person he is. Anyway, this matter has been resolved. Chen Xiang also told me that he would handle it, so I didn’t tell him,” Xia Lanyue lowered her head.

"It's alright, Li Si just deserves a beating. He'll behave after a good beating. He's a scoundrel who only dares to bully people like you because you're a stranger and there are no men around. You...you didn't cry, did you?"

Xia Lanyue was taken aback. Had he seen her crying? No, that would be too embarrassing. She immediately pretended to be nonchalant and said, "No, no, how could I possibly cry? I've seen much bigger scenes than this. I'm capable."

"Heh~" Jiang Di couldn't help but laugh.

Xia Lanyue tried her best to hide her guilty conscience, but it didn't seem to work, so she simply stopped pretending and laughed along with Jiang Di, "By the way, did you just happen to be passing by today? What a coincidence!"

“I…yes, I’m going to deliver salt to someone.”

"Ah, so you're here to collect your money today, right?" After saying that, Xia Lanyue remembered the money for the salt and sugar that hadn't been settled yet, and took out her purse from her bosom to start counting the money.

“I…yes,” Jiang Di said, swallowing back the words she wanted to say as she watched Xia Lanyue’s actions.

"Here you go, this is five hundred coins."

"Why are there so many?" Jiang Di asked.

“Salt and sugar together cost 330 coins, and with the bonus, it’s 500 coins,” Xia Lanyue said, counting on her fingers.

"With so many bonuses, won't you lose money?" Jiang Di asked.

"No, I've been selling really well lately, just don't think it's too little."

Jiang Di accepted it. "Thanks."

Xia Lanyue was taken aback. "What are you thanking me for? I should be thanking you for paying so much money for me and for fighting for me."

I was referring to bamboo shoots.

"Huh? Oh."

"No need to thank me, it was just a small favor," Xia Lanyue said. "By the way, I'm out of candy. Could you bring me some more while you're busy, or you can get some from somewhere in town?"

"I'll bring it to you at this time tomorrow. Will five pounds of sugar be enough?"

"Enough," Xia Lanyue nodded.

"Okay, I'll come find you tomorrow at 5 PM. I'll be going now."

"Mm," Xia Lanyue nodded.

After saying this, Jiang Di left in a hurry.

When Xia Lanyue returned to the courtyard, she saw Xia Yao sitting on a stool reading a book. She didn't know when he had come to the courtyard, or whether he had heard her conversation with Jiang Di.

After a brief hesitation, Xia Lanyue decided not to greet him. In any case, he would just nod coldly and ignore her. So she pretended not to see him and slipped into her room.

Not long after, Acheng returned.

"Why are you back?" Xia Yao asked. "Where's A Niu?"

“I’ll come back for dinner today, and he’ll come back to sleep tonight,” Acheng said.

Xia Yao frowned, but soon he seemed to understand why they were making such a fuss, so he didn't ask any further questions.

But when A-Cheng got closer, Xia Yao seemed to smell a fragrance. He wasn't sure, so he tried asking A-Cheng, "What is that? What's that smell?"

"What what?" Acheng retorted.

"It has a pleasant fragrance," Xia Yao said.

“I can’t smell it,” Acheng said.

Seeing Acheng's state, Xia Yao felt there was no point in chatting with him, so he didn't say anything more and turned back into the house.

As soon as Xia Yao closed the door, A-Cheng ran over and knocked on Xia Lanyue's door.

"Come in," Xia Lanyue said.

Seeing that it was Acheng at the door, she was a little surprised. "Why are you back? Don't you need to watch the land anymore? Where's Aniu?"

Acheng walked in, took out a sachet from his pocket, placed it in front of Xia Lanyue, said, "This is for you," and then turned and ran out.

Xia Lanyue was a little confused. She picked it up and brought it close to her nose to smell it. It smelled of flowers, quite pleasant. Could it be because of what happened with A Niu yesterday that he gave her this? Xia Lanyue thought to herself, "When did A Cheng become so thoughtful? This is good; it's worth all the meals I've brought him these past few days." Then, she casually hung the sachet on her waist and walked out of the house.

Xia Yao was standing in the middle of the courtyard, unusually without a book, just with his hands behind his back. It looked as if he was waiting for someone.

Xia Lanyue felt it would be inappropriate not to greet him, so she moved closer and said, "Xia Yao."

Xia Yao turned around, looked at Xia Lanyue, and then his gaze fell on the sachet at her waist. "This sachet?"

"Yes, it was a gift from Acheng," Xia Lanyue said with a smile.

"He gave you a sachet?!" Xia Yao looked quite surprised.

"Well, you didn't?"

Xia Yao sneered and turned his face away disdainfully.

Xia Lanyue was taken aback. It seemed that there really wasn't any truth to it. Xia Lanyue realized that she had said something she shouldn't have, so she quickly shut up.

Xia Yao seemed unhappy, muttering something about "this A-Cheng" before turning to look at her sachet.

Xia Lanyue was startled and quickly covered the sachet.

Actually, she just didn't want Xia Yao to get angry when he saw the sachet, but her actions made it seem as if she was afraid Xia Yao would snatch it away.

Xia Yao was also stunned for a moment. He looked up at Xia Lanyue in disbelief, then took a deep breath and went straight back into the house without saying goodbye.

Is he angry again?! Is it because of her actions? Or is he jealous because of a sachet? Xia Lanyue shook her head; a man's heart is like a needle at the bottom of the sea.

That evening, fearing that Xia Yao would be unhappy, Xia Lanyue didn't dare to wear the sachet anymore.
