Chapter 129 This is inappropriate
Xia Lanyue stood in the courtyard, and Xia Yao stood opposite her with a face towel in his hand. Between them was a basin of water.
Both of them wore expressions of reluctance.
Xia Huifang seemed oblivious to the expression on her face, continuing to say to herself, "Hurry up and finish washing your hair, then we'll eat."
The two of them stood there for a long time without moving an inch.
Finally, Xia Lanyue couldn't hold back any longer and spoke first, "Give me the face towel, I can do it myself."
However, Xia Yao did not hand her the towel in his hand. Instead, he glanced at Xia Huifang in the kitchen and then said to Xia Lanyue, "Put your hair down."
Xia Lanyue was taken aback. What did he mean? Was he going to wash her hair? Had she misunderstood?!
Seeing that she didn't move, Xia Yao lowered his eyes and said, "How can I wash it if you don't let your hair down?" His tone was much gentler, making Xia Lanyue feel as if he had become a different person.
This made Xia Lanyue feel embarrassed, and she quickly waved her hand, saying, "That's not a good idea." Then she reached out to take the face towel from Xia Yao's hand, but he dodged her.
Xia Lanyue was stunned again. What was wrong with him? Did he really not want to wash her hair? She panicked a little.
Xia Yao didn't urge her, but just watched her quietly.
The weather in June was already hot, and coupled with her current mood, Xia Lanyue's forehead began to sweat.
She thought about it and realized that washing her hair wouldn't make much difference, and she wasn't capable of washing it herself anyway, so she might as well leave it as it was. Once she made up her mind, she stopped worrying about it.
Xia Lanyue raised her hand and gently pulled out the hairpin from the top of her head. Her hair immediately cascaded down like a waterfall, and the afterglow of the setting sun fell on her hair, like a golden flower, highlighting her face.
Her appearance stunned Xia Yao for a second before he hurriedly looked away.
Xia Lanyue brushed her hair aside and bent down.
Xia Yao dampened a towel with water and gently wet her hair. His fingers lightly brushed through her hair, every movement extremely gentle and careful.
Xia Lanyue could feel the gentle flow of water caressing her skin, refreshing and cool, which felt very comfortable. She gradually relaxed.
At that moment, Xia Yao's fingertips inadvertently touched Xia Lanyue's skin. She couldn't help but tremble, a tingling sensation running through her heart as if an electric current had passed through her.
Why is this happening?! She was somewhat surprised. How could she have this feeling? Didn't she dislike Xia Yao? Why wasn't it a feeling of resistance?!
Xia Lanyue panicked a little and inadvertently raised her head, but Xia Yao pressed her shoulder down, "Hey, don't move, the water will spill."
Xia Lanyue lowered her head again.
She tried hard to control her emotions and not let her reaction be too obvious.
She gripped the hairpin even tighter.
Finally, my hair is washed.
Xia Yao helped her squeeze the water out of her hair and then handed it to Xia Lanyue.
Xia Lanyue didn't dare to look up, only said "thank you" and walked into the house.
Xia Lanyue closed the door, leaned against it, and tried to calm herself down. She repeatedly reminded herself that Xia Yao was the one who had caused her such a terrible situation! She couldn't let her mind wander! She couldn't forget the slap she had received just because of a date! She couldn't be deceived by his appearance.
Late at night, Xia Lanyue lay on her bed, still unable to fall asleep.
She thought of Xia Yao's fan, and many questions in her heart remained unanswered.
Hesitating between asking and not asking, Xia Yao turned off the light in his room.
Driven by curiosity, Xia Lanyue hurriedly got up and went outside. She went to Xia Yao's window, and on a whim, coughed lightly. Before long, Xia Yao appeared at the door.
"Um... I have something I want to ask you," Xia Lanyue said softly.
"Ah, let me hear it. What is it that can't be heard during the day and can only be heard at night?" Xia Yao nodded.
Xia Lanyue gave an awkward laugh.
"Where did you get that fan?" Xia Lanyue asked.
Xia Yao looked at Xia Lanyue with a puzzled expression.
"It's the one on the table in your room, it has my name on it."
Xia Yao nodded, but did not answer her question directly, "You went into my room without my permission and touched my things."
Xia Lanyue smiled and said, "I didn't mean to. It was too hot, and I needed a fan to cool myself off, so I just took it without asking. There was a poem on the fan."
"Yes, love poems, the ones you wrote for me," Xia Yao said casually.
Xia Lanyue stared blankly, mouth agape, seemingly unsure what to say. After a moment of silence, she asked, "Why would I write you a love poem?"
"That's a question for you to ask, why are you asking me instead?"
“That’s not what I meant, um… why did I give you this fan?” Xia Lanyue felt she had asked another silly question.
"Because you like me, right?" Xia Yao thought for a moment. "After all, love poems aren't something you can just give away casually, don't you think?"
Xia Lanyue bit her lip, unsure how to answer him. But she was utterly surprised. Dai Xiyue really liked this guy?! But what about Dai You? She dreamt of Dai You! Xia Yao must be lying.
“You’re lying, this isn’t Dai… my style,” Xia Lanyue said, turning her aside.
"Oh, so you're trying to back out now because you've lost your memory!" Xia Yao said with a teasing expression.
"How did you know I had amnesia?" Xia Lanyue panicked. She remembered lying to Xia Yao that she had regained her memory. When did he find out?
"We were in a relationship where we exchanged love poems. If you don't remember me, you must have amnesia."
Xia Lanyue quickly made a shushing gesture, "Keep your voice down, don't let others hear."
Xia Yao smirked smugly, "It doesn't matter if you hear it, that's what everyone outside thinks too."
Xia Lanyue looked at him in astonishment and disbelief. How come she had never noticed Xia Yao's shameless behavior before?
“We’re not in that kind of relationship. It’s all a misunderstanding. I’ll explain it to you one day,” Xia Lanyue said defiantly.
"Oh? You're that confident?" Xia Yao clearly didn't believe it.
"Could you give me back my fan?" Xia Lanyue asked hesitantly.
"No," Xia Yao shook his head.
"why?"
“What you gave me is naturally mine. There’s no reason for me to take it back.” Xia Yao looked away.
"Since you don't like me anyway, what's the point of keeping it?"
Xia Yao paused for a moment, then said, "That's different."
Xia Lanyue frowned. "What's different?"
Xia Yao stopped explaining and simply shook his head, "No."
Xia Lanyue sighed as she looked at him, knowing that she couldn't get what she wanted, so she simply gave up.
"If you have nothing else, I'll go back and rest," Xia Yao said, turning and walking towards the house.
"Wait, when are you going to take me to see Dai You?"
"Well... I'll tell you tomorrow. It's getting late, get some rest," Xia Yao said, and without waiting for Xia Lanyue's reply, he went into the house. But as he closed the door, he gave her a faint smile, a smile that carried a hint of smugness.
