Chapter 101 Curing Xia Yao's Stubbornness
Chapter 101 Curing Xia Yao's Stubbornness
As Xia Lanyue walked, she recalled the scene when she first arrived here. The owner of this body was Dai Xiyue, who was rescued from the water. When she woke up, her first feeling was that she was drowning.
Perhaps this is the turning point to regaining her memories, she decided to give it a try.
Xia Lanyue didn't go to the bridge; she didn't want to run into the villagers, as that would require her to go through the trouble of explaining herself. After all, it would look like she was contemplating suicide.
The place Xia Lanyue came to was where she often bathed. The water flow was gentle, and importantly, the reeds were some distance from the shore, which made it easy for her to observe the surroundings.
She took off her shoes and socks, placed them on a rock, and then slowly walked into the river.
The cool river water enveloped Xia Lanyue's entire body, and the buoyancy of the water gently lifted her up, instantly improving her mood.
She floated on the water, letting the river carry her a distance before swimming back to the starting point.
After playing around for a couple of rounds, she finally settled down and got down to business.
Xia Lanyue glanced around and, seeing no one and no danger, relaxed and began to proceed according to plan.
She stood in the water, squatted down, and held her breath with her head underwater, wanting to experience the feeling of drowning.
The first time, I felt suffocated, so I raised my head.
The second time, it lasted ten seconds longer than the first time.
The third time, it lasted another five seconds.
……
Finally, Xia Lanyue realized that this method wouldn't work.
First, she can swim and doesn't have any fear of water. Second, when she can't hold her breath any longer, her instinct drives her to look up, which doesn't create a sense of crisis. Apart from improving her lung capacity, it doesn't have any other effect.
Xia Lanyue was disappointed; her thinking had been too idealistic, and it seemed that this method wouldn't work.
"Since we're already here, let's take a bath," Xia Lanyue muttered as she unbuckled her belt.
Suddenly, a man's voice rang out, "What are you doing?!"
Xia Lanyue was startled and turned her head to look. It was Xia Yao!
"What are you doing here?" Xia Lanyue asked, puzzled.
"Do you...do you want to die?" Xia Yao's eyes remained cold.
Xia Lanyue glared at him, "I don't want to die, I'm taking a shower..."
After saying that, she remembered that she had untied her belt, looked down at herself, and found that her clothes were floating in the water. She hurriedly turned around, tied her belt back on, and thankfully, she was not exposed.
After tidying her clothes, she turned to Xia Yao and asked, "You still haven't answered me, why are you here?"
"Um... someone just said someone was contemplating suicide, so I came to check," Xia Yao said, looking away from her, "Since you don't mean to, hurry up and come on up."
"Oh," Xia Lanyue replied, then suddenly an idea struck her. She looked at Xia Yao on the shore and asked, "Can you swim?"
"No," Xia Yao said, turning his back to her.
"Then can you do me a favor?"
"What's the deal?"
“Come here, come here, I’ll tell you,” Xia Lanyue pointed to the protruding rock on the shore, “come over here,” and then moved over herself, waiting for Xia Yao to come over.
Xia Yao carefully walked onto the rock and looked down at Xia Lanyue. "Speak."
"You hold my head underwater for sixty seconds, no, sixty counts, then let go, okay?"
"Not good at all, are you crazy?" Xia Yao said impatiently, "Come on up and leave."
Seeing his attitude, Xia Lanyue became displeased as well. She reached out and grabbed his ankle, pulling him down. Xia Yao lost his balance, and with the rocks slipping, he fell into the water.
He panicked completely and started thrashing about in the water.
The water wasn't deep, but the fear of the water completely panicked him. He had no ability to think and relied solely on his will to survive, instinctively struggling in the water.
Xia Lanyue felt that he had thrashed about enough, so she went over and helped him up.
The moment Xia Yao caught Xia Lanyue, it was as if he had grasped a lifeline. He clung to her with his entire body, including his legs.
Xia Lanyue tried to push away his legs that were wrapped around her waist, but he was too strong and she couldn't push them off. She tried to pull down his arms that were wrapped around her shoulders, but she couldn't pull them off either.
Xia Yao was breathing heavily, his eyes fixed on her fiercely.
At this moment, Xia Lanyue's face was less than a foot away from his. This sudden close contact made Xia Lanyue blush with embarrassment, and she turned her head to the side to look elsewhere.
Xia Yao didn't notice any of this. Once he calmed down a bit, he immediately questioned, "Do you even know what you're doing?!"
Xia Lanyue was also unhappy after being yelled at like that. She glared at him and retorted defiantly, "Who told you to yell at me just now?"
"Are you crazy?!" Xia Yao said angrily.
Upon hearing this, Xia Lanyue became even more unhappy and took a few more steps into the deeper water. She was determined to teach him a lesson for his bad temper today.
Xia Yao was dumbfounded. His expression became noticeably flustered, and he was no longer as arrogant as before. He also lost his confidence when he spoke, "You... take me back."
"Go back by yourself," Xia Lanyue rolled her eyes.
"I..." Xia Yao was speechless.
Seeing Xia Yao's discomfiture, Xia Lanyue laughed triumphantly, her body trembling with unrestrained laughter.
At this moment, Xia Lanyue saw Xia Yao's flushed face.
She also realized that the distance between the two of them was too close, and the physical contact made it somewhat awkward.
Xia Yao turned his head away, as if he had made up his mind, and took his leg off her body, tentatively stepping on the bottom of the water.
Sure enough, the water wasn't deep; he stood up straight, and the water only reached his chest.
Now, Xia Yao regained his confidence, immediately put on his previous arrogant expression, released his hand from Xia Lanyue's shoulder, and walked towards the shore.
However, his triumph was short-lived. He slipped on the moss at the bottom of the water, lost his balance, and fell back into the water. Lacking swimming experience, Xia Yao was unable to stand up again, and as time went on, he became increasingly panicked.
Xia Lanyue realized this wouldn't work, so she quickly went over and tried to pull him up again.
To her surprise, Xia Yao, out of fear, clung to her again, causing Xia Lanyue to lose her balance and fall into the water as well.
Xia Lanyue tried to stand up again, but Xia Yao's interference kept causing her to slip. She tried twice without success. Then she tried to swim to float, but Xia Yao's legs were tightly wrapped around hers, preventing her from using her swimming skills. She panicked and didn't know what to do. Suddenly, she felt fear. Was this how she was going to die today?!
In the critical moment, Xia Lanyue shrank back, hooked her leg, and kicked Xia Yao away with all her might. Then she quickly stepped on the water to stand firm. Next, she reached out and grabbed Xia Yao's collar, pulling him out of the water.
Xia Yao followed Xia Lanyue's arm, grabbed her, and hugged her again, but this time, he didn't wrap his legs around her.
He coughed violently in her ear, his chest rising and falling with each cough, and Xia Lanyue could clearly feel it each time.
Xia Lanyue couldn't see Xia Yao's expression, so she didn't know what he was thinking or whether he was blushing like her.
"I'll take you ashore," Xia Lanyue said, pulling Xia Yao's arm down, turning her face to the side so Xia Yao wouldn't see her, and slowly walking towards the shore with his arm in her hand.
Xia Yao cooperated without saying much, simply following her and walking forward.
Once ashore, Xia Yao breathed a sigh of relief, as if he had escaped a disaster. After a few seconds to calm down, he quickly walked over, pulled Xia Lanyue close, and forced her to face him, glaring at him as if to vent his pent-up anger.
However, his gaze involuntarily drifted downwards and settled on her chest.
An awkward silence suddenly filled the air.
Xia Lanyue immediately understood, hurriedly turned around, and bent down to straighten her clothes. Summer clothes are thin, and when wet, they clung tightly to her body, revealing her figure.
Xia Lanyue's face flushed again. She hurriedly ran over and put on her shoes and socks, then, without looking back, headed home. But she had only taken two steps when Xia Yao called out to her, "Hey, put these clothes on."
Xia Lanyue turned around and saw Xia Yao turn his head to the side, handing her a piece of clothing, which should be his outer robe.
Xia Lanyue needed the clothes, so she didn't stand on ceremony, quickly took them, draped them over her shoulders, said "thank you," and continued on her way.
