Chapter 117 Just Survival
Chapter 117 Just Survival
The mirror surface gradually calmed down, eventually condensing into points of light that dissipated.
The four people surrounding Ning Xiaoxi had not yet recovered from the fierce battle.
The black robe of the Nine Realms moved without wind, and the Yin energy spread uncontrollably in all directions. Wherever the Yin wind passed, snow rose and fell, and the soft white snow turned into raging blades.
Hidden flames blazed from Kuiwei Chi and Kuiwei Yuan's bodies, deep purple fire crackling and burning from head to toe, igniting the ground beneath their feet, stained with the blood of Kuafu's guardians. The blood was ignited, the land burned.
Moonlight shone down on Kuiwei, and his fair skin, set against the backdrop of black earth and red flames, appeared no longer fair but rather a fragile pale.
Ning Xiaoxi withdrew her hand, and the Spirit Crystal Heart, hidden under her sleeve, retreated back to its cave and hung on a branch of the Three Mulberry Tree, swaying slightly like a cat that had stolen some cream. The most abundant energy collected here was Yin-Yang Qi and Demonic Qi. After releasing the impurities from these energies through retrospection, the pure energy became its nourishment.
"This happened last night, a day has passed. My lord, shall we go up the mountain now?" Kuiweichi's eyes widened in anger.
“All one hundred guards are high-level beginners, and the priest leading the team is even higher-level advanced. They could only hold out for a few steps against Frost Soul. Even if the three of us went up, we wouldn’t be able to stop Frost Soul.” Nine Domains remained as aloof as ever. “His appearance here is definitely not a coincidence.”
Ning Xiaoxi looked at the Nine Domains, but saw interest in his eyes. It wasn't that he didn't want to go up; he just wanted to wait.
"But why did Frost Soul capture Mountain Moon? It killed all the guards, and even during the battle, it refused to let go of Mountain Moon," Kuiwei Guardian asked疑惑地.
"Whatever its motives, I've already set off the fireworks. The clan leader will arrive with reinforcements as soon as possible. Only when reinforcements arrive can we be confident in thwarting Frost Soul's scheme and rescuing Mountain Moon." Nine Domains' gaze fell upon the corpses scattered on the ground. "Let's collect the bodies of the guards first!"
Kuiwei Shouyu and Chi Yuan fell silent, their faces filled with sorrow.
"My lord, let me see the guards off!" Ning Xiaoxi said to Jiuyu in a low voice.
Jiuyu glanced at Ning Xiaoxi, "Thank you so much, Xiaoxi, for letting us see what happened. Now, I'll have to trouble you!"
Ning Xiaoxi nodded, took out a bottle containing the Spirit Gathering Grass juice from her bosom, and dipped her slender fingers in the juice to draw in the air. Golden light shimmered with her fingers, and as the runes flowed, a calming and tranquil atmosphere spread out.
With the final stroke, Ning Xiaoxi held the golden rune in both hands, enveloped in a golden light, and raised her hands high, supporting the golden rune.
"A gentle breeze arises!"
A gentle breeze began to blow across the calm ice plains, golden runes drifted in the wind, and golden light spread, enveloping all the mangled corpses and blood-stained black earth within sight.
"The gentle breeze follows my will, the bright moon accompanies you as you sleep. Auspicious light soothes the soul, pure radiance illuminates the spirit and brings peace."
Ning Xiaoxi's voice was soft and gentle, and golden light shimmered, causing the moon's shadow in the sky to fall. The silver light and golden light merged, a breeze blew, and wisps of heat rose. You could see the aura floating on the ground and underground. After circling the battlefield once, it drifted towards the horizon.
Kuiwei looked up at the sky. The moonlight was cold and indifferent, watching over the human world. Yet, the human world was full of love, which was subject to the harassment of demons.
"Xiao Xi's cultivation method is quite unique." Jiu Yu's cold voice was devoid of any inflection, making it impossible to discern whether he was praising or criticizing. "The Kuafu Clan will accept this favor of helping my warriors on their journey."
Kuiwei Shouyu, Chi, and Yuan bowed to Ning Xiaoxi at the same time.
Ning Xiaoxi bowed slightly in return; that was all she could do now. Looking up at Mount Kongsang, she saw it completely shrouded in darkness. Even with the bright moon high in the sky, the mountain peaks remained obscured. The darkness wasn't just due to the night; perhaps it was more so due to demonic energy.
Ning Xiaoxi walked to the open space beside her and took out pieces of white linen from her cave, spreading them out on the black earth. These pieces of cloth were prepared by her uncle before he left, saying that there might not be so much good linen in Youzhou, so she should take them with her to avoid having to buy them at high prices later. This time, they all came in handy.
Shouyu, Chi, and Yuan each brought over the corpses from various locations. Shouyu Kuiwei's physique had returned to the normal height of the Kuafu tribe, yet he remained tall but not burly. His usual resolute demeanor was now replaced by profound sorrow, and his slightly hunched back bore the weight of endless grief. He stretched out his trembling hands and gently lifted the remains of the Kongsang guards, his movements filled with utmost care, as if afraid of disturbing these departed souls.
Kuiweichi and Kuiweiyuan carefully arranged the bodies, even gently smoothing out the deceased's messy fingers, as if bidding them a final farewell.
She started with those that were still intact, placing them one by one on the white cloth that Ning Xiaoxi had laid out. Ning Xiaoxi then tidied the clothes of each corpse, wiped the bloodstains from their faces and hands, and combed their disheveled hair.
Ning Xiaoxi's movements were gentle. After tidying up each body, she could feel a calm breath caressing her forehead, so tender and so affectionate.
Tears streamed down Ning Xiaoxi's face. Humans struggled to survive, trying to establish themselves on this continent; demons, ruthless and merciless, fought for their own space. There was no right or wrong in this; it was simply a matter of survival.
Many of the corpses behind were missing parts, and could only be pieced together roughly. But no matter what, they had to be pieced together.
Jiuyu stood at the foot of the mountain, where the priest had finally sacrificed himself. There lay a thick sea of blood—a mist of blood, chunks of flesh, and broken bones—but not a single intact limb. Slight traces of demonic energy still lingered. Jiuyu waved his hand, dispersing the demonic energy. The cold, gloomy demonic energy tried to coil around Jiuyu, following his aura. Jiuyu grabbed the demonic energy with his backhand, clenching his fist. The demonic energy squeaked as it was crushed. He opened his palm, absorbing the crushed demonic energy into his body.
"Quite ambitious, Frost Soul!" Nine Domains chuckled in a low voice.
The thick darkness of night began to recede.
“Only eighty-four bodies.” Ning Xiaoxi looked at the corpses lying side by side on the burlap; not all of them had their remains found.
Looking around, they had already moved everything they could find; all that remained was the black earth stained with blood.
Snowflakes were falling gently, and dark clouds in the sky blocked out the sun.
"My clan is paying respects, yet you dare to block the sun!" Jiuyu's voice carried hidden anger. With a flick of his sleeve, the violent Yin power surged into the sky, and the rampant Yin energy tore through the thick dark clouds.
A ray of sunlight pierced through the clouds and fell upon the corpses. Gradually, the ray of sunlight transformed into a blanket of sunlight, dispelling the gloomy, snowy weather. The sun shone brightly, and all the corpses were bathed in its warmth.
