Chapter 73 Ghost Operation
Chapter 73 Ghost Operation
The atmosphere in the meeting room was somewhat awkward.
The soldier sitting in the first position on the left stood up.
He was tall and muscular, with a thick beard.
After looking Lu Ye up and down, he took the initiative to extend his right hand, which was wearing a tactical glove.
"I am the captain of this squad, codename Gray Wolf."
"I happened to be there for both matches yesterday, one in the underground cage and one at the tactical shooting range. They were crisp and clean, especially their marksmanship, which was really good. Our team welcomes strong competitors."
"Thank you." Lu Ye extended his right hand and shook hands with Gray Wolf, his tone calm. "Lu Ye."
He experienced once again that when you are strong enough, you will be surrounded by kindness.
After a brief self-introduction, Vasily patted Lu Ye on the shoulder: "Come on, follow me to the equipment room. This mission is of a very high level. Go to the equipment room, take whatever you need, and I'll sign for it."
Lu Ye nodded, greeted everyone in the conference room, and followed Vasily out of the room.
After passing through the corridor, we arrived at a fairly large tactical equipment warehouse.
Vasily stepped forward, intentionally or unintentionally blocking the quartermaster's view, and familiarly offered him a Cuban cigar. The two began to chat in hushed tones about pubs and women.
With his back to the two, Lu Ye understood immediately.
He immediately walked toward the rows of dazzling weapon racks.
Although he already had the SVCh and the DVL-10 high-precision silenced sniper rifle he won, he was severely lacking in conventional individual survival equipment.
Lu Ye acted swiftly, first selecting a Russian army's latest 6B45 heavy tactical body armor vest and replacing it with a 6A-grade boron carbide ceramic bulletproof plate.
Next, he took a FAST tactical helmet with rails and a "Viper" 3D camouflage ghillie suit that was extremely suitable for nighttime camouflage in the wild.
Lu Ye's eyes lit up as he walked into the ammunition area.
To complement the DVL-10 and SVCh, he took ten boxes (200 rounds) of .308 Winchester high-precision competition-grade sniper ammunition and ten boxes of 7N14 competition-grade standard armor-piercing sniper ammunition, as well as ten spare magazines, and then put some of them into his inventory.
Next, he selected an SR-1M "Victor" special pistol as his secondary weapon, along with five magazines filled with 9×21mm armor-piercing rounds.
Lu Ye concealed a box of high-calorie individual self-heating rations, three boxes of military antibiotics, rapid hemostatic powder, a spin-type tourniquet, and some hand grenades and stun grenades in his backpack.
Then I took 10 each of the RGO defensive fragmentation grenade, RGD-5 offensive grenade, RDG-2 smoke canister, and Zarya-2 stun grenade, plus two boxes of sniper ammunition, and stuffed them all into my inventory.
Lu Ye slung his backpack over his shoulder and walked back to Vasily's side.
"Have you made your choice?" Vasily turned his head and looked at Lu Ye's bulging tactical vest and backpack. His eyes twitched slightly, but he didn't say anything and signed the supply list directly.
"By the way, how much will I get paid for this job?" Lu Ye asked casually.
"Since you are a special agent this time, the total reward is $3. The $200 reward for each enemy soldier killed is gone."
Lu Ye nodded without haggling; this price was already considered above average.
The two returned to the operations room.
Lu Ye placed the helmet on the table and sat down.
Vasily walked to the tactical projector in the conference room and pressed the switch.
An extremely clear nighttime satellite reconnaissance map appeared on the screen.
"The codename for this mission is Ghost." Vasily pointed to a red-marked area on the map. "We will take advantage of the darkness and use helicopters to make a low-altitude infiltration into the vicinity of the village of Sokolnoye in Ukrainian-controlled territory."
"Our objective is to make contact with a high-ranking informant embedded within the Ukrainian military. This informant possesses extremely crucial strategic intelligence, stored on a specially encrypted hard drive."
Vasily looked around at everyone and said in a serious tone, "Your mission is to escort the contact to complete the intelligence handover, retrieve the hard drive, and then withdraw from the Ukrainian-controlled area before dawn."
"Specific tactical deployments will be arranged by the lieutenant colonel. Upon arrival at the scene, everyone will obey the on-site command of Captain Gray Wolf."
After listening, Lu Ye frowned slightly and looked at Vasily: "Are you the contact person?"
Vasily shook his head: "I travel with the squad, but I'm not the one in charge of making contact."
Lu Ye understood instantly.
Although Vasily was a senior GRU agent, in this operation, his rank or status was not high enough to make contact with the "senior informant" within the Ukrainian army.
The person actually in charge of making contact was someone else, and this key figure was not even in this meeting room.
The lieutenant colonel cleared his throat, stood up, walked to the screen, and began issuing specific combat orders.
"According to intelligence, the village of Sokolnoye is a temporary reception and transfer station for wounded Ukrainian soldiers."
"The helicopter can only take you to a place 5 kilometers away from the village of Sokolinoye. After that, you will need to sneak into the vicinity of the village of Sokolinoye."
"This process will be covered by the Haiying-10 unmanned reconnaissance aircraft, which will promptly inform you of the surrounding outposts and patrol routes."
"Upon entering the vicinity of the village of Sokolinoye, 'Iron Eagle' will be responsible for operating the miniature reconnaissance drones and electronic jamming."
The second soldier on the left stood up to signal.
"The village of Socolinoe is built on a hillside, with its back to the cliff. Its front, or east side, is heavily fortified."
"The abandoned red-brick church in the village center is the only high point in the entire village, surrounded by a large area of withered birch forest, and the village is fenced off with low shrubs."
"The infiltration route involves stealthily moving along the low-lying gullies in the woodland, bypassing the checkpoints in front of the village, and arriving at the top of the cliff behind the village, entering from the back of the village."
"The entire village is garrisoned by about 100 people, of whom 70 are combat personnel."
After introducing the mission background, the lieutenant colonel began to assign tasks to the others.
"This mission is being carried out by the 'Hunter' squad of the GRU special forces. Squad leader 'Grey Wolf' is in charge of overall command; squad member 'Giant Bear' serves as the heavy machine gunner; 'Eagle Eye' is the sniper; 'Lynx' is the spotter; and 'Detonator' and 'Iron Hammer' are the demolition and assault specialists, respectively."
After assigning the special forces team, the lieutenant colonel's gaze fell on Lu Ye.
Before the lieutenant colonel could speak, Vasily suddenly interjected, "Sir, Lu Ye is a top-notch sniper. He operates independently outside the standard tactical formation of the assault team."
The lieutenant colonel paused for a moment, and the Grey Wolf captain also turned to look at Vasily.
"This is to maximize his sniping advantage," Vasily explained to the Grey Wolf. "Once we get there, your team will be responsible for getting to the rendezvous point."
"Lu Ye will find a high vantage point on the perimeter for cover. He doesn't need to come inside the building with you, but he will act according to your radio instructions."
The Gray Wolf Captain pondered for two seconds and glanced at the lieutenant colonel.
Seeing the lieutenant colonel nod with a dark expression, Gray Wolf stopped being coy and directly picked up a black communication device from the table and handed it to Lu Ye.
"Military-grade bone conduction tactical headphones with integrated active noise cancellation." Gray Wolf pointed to a tiny knob on the headphones.
"The channel is fixed on our encrypted frequency-hopping network, and the switch is on your chest."
Lu Ye took the earphones, put them on cleanly, and adjusted the channel: "Received."
The lieutenant colonel glanced at his tactical watch and said coldly, "It's 9 PM. Everyone, check your weapons and equipment. 11 PM sharp, depart!"
……
For the next two hours, the only sounds in the conference room were extremely faint metallic clanging and the clicking of magazines being loaded.
Lu Ye also received a system task.
[Trigger Mission: Cover the rendezvous of intelligence personnel]
[Mission Description: Ensure intelligence personnel successfully obtain intelligence and return to camp safely]
[Task Rewards: 200 points! 2 attribute points!]
10:50 p.m.
"Set off."
The group of eight quietly left the command center and arrived at the helipad in the logistics area.
A Mi-35 "Hind" assault transport helicopter is waiting to be deployed.
The cabin was dimly lit, with only a faint red tactical light flashing.
