Chapter 360: The World Under the Light Curtain
Chapter 360: The World Under the Light Curtain
When Yang Chan entered the one hundred and first floor of the high tower, the scene finally changed.
The central stone statue was still there, but this time, there were murals on the walls. Also, the Exotic Beasts on the previous floors had been land animals, whereas on the one hundred and first floor, they were birds of prey—a type of creature Yang Chan had yet to see in this space.
Its feet were still bound by iron chains, as if it were a prisoner in the high tower.
The murals on the walls also depicted soaring birds of prey, matching the appearance of the stone statue. It was magnificent and divine. As it soared through the air, it looked like a king surveying his domain, exuding an air of absolute dominance.
Yang Chan examined the room carefully. Besides the murals, there was nothing else. The only significant change he sensed was the concentration of Spiritual Qi. Compared to the one hundredth floor, the increase was distinct.
The concentration of Spiritual Qi had increased by at least ten percent, and the difference was even greater when compared to the first floor. This gave Yang Chan the feeling that the source of this space’s Spiritual Qi was the very top of the tower. It was even possible that something was hidden there.
What had previously been a guess, he now felt increasingly certain of.
The tower’s pattern changed starting from the one hundred and first floor. All the way up to the one hundred and thirtieth floor, the theme was avian Exotic Beasts, complete with murals. This allowed Yang Chan to witness many different kinds of Exotic Beasts. The only shame was the lack of any written descriptions; he could only discern their appearances and some of their mystical qualities.
For instance, some birds could breathe Demon Fire, some could ride upon white clouds, and others could conjure hurricanes and frost with a single flap of their wings.
This might was somewhat similar to that of the Divine Beasts from myths and legends. It also reminded Yang Chan of the White Dragon and Black Dragon he had seen on the murals in the Green Brick Courtyard. Both were incredibly mystical and possessed powerful Divine Techniques.
Cultivating Martial Arts to the Inner Master Realm allowed one to perform all sorts of incredible feats, but these still fell short when compared to true Divine Techniques.
Bone Marrow Cleansing Grandmasters were powerful, but he had never heard of them possessing Divine Techniques. As for the National Guardian Martial Saint Realm, Yang Chan wasn’t so sure.
However, it was possible that one could possess Martial Arts Divine Techniques upon reaching the apex of Cultivation.
Yang Chan continued upward until he reached the one hundred and thirtieth floor, a vantage point from which he hoped to survey the area.
After confirming there were no special items or hidden dangers, his gaze shifted to a window that looked out upon a gloomy sky.
With a single glance, he saw a barrier of light stretched across the sky, its source emanating from the city walls.
The barrier of light emerged from the edges of the walls, spread to cover the space between them, and finally converged toward the top of the tower.
He had originally thought he could see beyond the city walls from the tower, but to his surprise, he still couldn’t see anything. The barrier of light obscured the entire view.
Yang Chan recalled pushing the giant gate earlier. Now that he thought about it, the repulsive force must have come from this very light barrier.
When he had pushed the gate, he had essentially been pushing against the light barrier. No wonder he couldn’t budge it.
It wasn’t just the gate’s own resistance, but also the force from the light barrier. This was the same special power that could repair the damage on the city walls.
’It seems I was right. This is just a small, isolated section of Taiyin Heaven, and a special one at that.’
’And aside from me, there’s no one else here.’
Yang Chan’s gaze swept across the entire area. He was completely alone.
Suddenly, Yang Chan’s gaze froze. He spotted a bizarre scene. Near the base of the tower, an Exotic Beast was trapped. It struggled relentlessly, but to no avail. An inexplicable force dragged it into the tower. A moment later, he felt the entire structure tremble, and his own position was lifted by more than three meters.
The scene sparked a horrifying possibility in Yang Chan’s mind: the tower wasn’t built by human hands. It had grown tall by being nourished, one by one, with Exotic Beasts.
’Perhaps the tower didn’t even exist in the beginning,’ he thought. ’Maybe one day, an Exotic Beast wandered in and became its first nutrient. It was imprisoned, and its life was converted into the tower’s power, building it up.’
’Every single floor of this tower was built with the life of an Exotic Beast.’
’And the statues I’ve been seeing... they aren’t statues at all. They’re the petrified remains of creatures whose Life Force was drained away. The chains are what’s used to imprison them.’
At this thought, Yang Chan couldn’t help but take two steps back.
If his theory was correct, then this tower was far more terrifying and dangerous than he had imagined. Being inside it now, he was likely being watched by some unknown entity that wanted to trap him here forever.
This thought made Yang Chan even more cautious.
Yang Chan gripped the Long Sword at his waist. His Sword Intent and Sword Momentum surged as he slashed directly at the central stone statue. He had considered trying to destroy one before but had held back, fearing it might cause even greater trouble. Now, he couldn’t afford to hesitate.
He had to confirm the idea that had just struck him. If his guess was correct, then the source of danger he had sensed before approaching the tower was the tower itself—and that unknown power within it.
’Entering an unknown Secret Realm really wasn’t a good idea,’ he thought grimly. ’You know nothing, and you can step into a trap without even realizing it. It’s the worst kind of situation.’
BANG!
The Sword Light flashed, but the statue remained intact. A peculiar power protected it, nullifying the force of Yang Chan’s attack.
The Weapon in Yang Chan’s hand was Sharp Weapon Level, capable of slicing through refined iron with ease. Even an Inner Master with a body tempered through countless trials wouldn’t dare face it head-on. On top of that, he had empowered his Sword Techniques with both Sword Intent and Sword Momentum.
Yet his slash had no effect. The result left Yang Chan with a grim sense of resignation.
’Just as I thought.’ The statue was protected by that strange power. When he tried slashing at the iron chains, the same thing happened—his blade was stopped by that same peculiar force.
The entire tower was suffused with that strange power, with danger lurking within. In this situation, Yang Chan was out of options.
If he had a choice, he wouldn’t want to ascend to the top. But now, there was no other path.
There was no way out. He had already surveyed the entire area; it was completely sealed by the light barrier.
If that special power within the tower decided to move against him, he might not be its match, even with his preparations. He could easily be dragged into the structure and become the foundation for a new floor.
This place wasn’t as safe as it seemed; it was exceedingly dangerous. An unprepared person would surely die here with regrets. His only option now was to keep climbing and hope to find a true exit at the summit.
Even if he couldn’t find an exit, he had to find a way to counter the tower’s strange power. Otherwise, no matter how long he held out, it would be useless—especially for someone like him, who possessed a long Lifespan.
