Chapter 50: He's not as handsome as him, his family isn't as well-off, and his temper is d
The iron gate to the rooftop was suddenly flung open, and the sign that read "Rooftop Closed" slammed against the gate with a clanging sound. Shi Sui looked over.
As if by fate, she met the boy's deep, dark eyes.
At midday, few people have time to come to the rooftop, partly because they're rushing to lunch, and partly because of the "Rooftop Closed" sign.
At least Shi Sui only saw Xu Chaomu on the rooftop.
Her first instinct was to ask, "How did you get here?"
Chi Yan glanced at the boy beside Shi Sui, a sudden anger rising within him. His tone was unfriendly as soon as he spoke: "Why can't I come here? Have you taken over this place? What are you doing?"
What the heck? Why are you so angry? Did you come here to fight?
Shi Sui instinctively pictured a scene of two groups fighting in her mind. This was on the rooftop, and "meet on the rooftop after school" was a common phrase used to arrange a fight.
What did she do to upset her deskmate?
Shi Sui then looked at Yan Ze and asked, "We're eating here, what happened? Are we going to fight?"
Following behind Chi Yan, Yan Ze, who was trying to keep a low profile, was suddenly called out. Startled, he stammered, "No, ah, something's up. At noon, ah, the weather was so nice, Chi-ge and I came to the rooftop for a stroll and to enjoy the view. Ah, what a coincidence."
He knew all too well that he absolutely could not reveal the truth about following Shi Sui, or he would be beaten to death.
Shi Sui noticed that they weren't carrying any weapons like sticks, and was immediately fooled: "Oh, so you're here to see the scenery."
She then pointed to the left in a very friendly manner: "Over there, you can see the school park from there, the scenery is quite nice."
Chi Yan was filled with questions: "Who is this guy? How did you meet? Why are you eating from his lunchbox? Are you two so close? What are you doing...?" But when the words reached her lips, she doubted why she was even asking them.
He doesn't like his deskmate, so why ask so many questions? Doesn't that make him seem jealous?
He wasn't jealous at all, and just snorted, "Let's go see the scenery."
Chi Yan dragged Yan Ze to the other side, subtly glaring at Xu Chaomu before pretending to admire the scenery.
When he was ten steps away from Shi Sui, he couldn't wait any longer and asked Yan Ze in a low voice, "Who is that man?"
“Xu Chaomu,” Yan Ze paused, “is just a bookworm who’s good at studying, nothing special.”
How did they meet?
"We met at the bookstore." Yan Ze paused. "The student behind me transferred from the countryside to our school. He must be under a lot of academic pressure, so it's normal for him to go to the bookstore to buy books."
What is their relationship?
“Just ordinary friends.” Yan Ze paused. “It’s obvious that there’s no chance of any spark between them. They just talk about their studies. Even top students get bored.”
Chi Yan paused for a moment, then looked at him suspiciously: "How did you know all this?"
"Ah, this..." Yan Ze broke out in a cold sweat.
We can't exactly tell Brother Chi that he saw Shi Sui and Xu Chaomu riding their bicycles home together, can we?
“Yeah, you’re the most gossipy one.” Chi Yan turned around and glanced at him indifferently. “Tsk, he’s just average-looking.”
Yan Ze immediately chimed in, "He looks like a weakling. No girl would like a weakling."
Chi Yan felt a little better, but then she remembered, "You just said he's a good student?"
“Good grades can’t put food on the table. Xu Chaomu is a poor student in the Rain and Dew Project. Her family is poor, unlike yours.”
He felt even more at ease knowing that Shi Sui wasn't as handsome, as wealthy, or as good-tempered as him. But when Chi Yan glanced back, intending to look at Shi Sui, he saw—
Damn, this guy actually put his chopsticks into my deskmate's lunchbox!
Chi Yan strode over in a flash, his gaze fixed on the lunchbox in Shi Sui's hand.
Shi Sui followed his gaze and looked down: "What's wrong?"
Under his gaze, Xu Chaomu deliberately bent down lower, getting closer to Shi Sui, and slowly picked up a piece of grilled chicken leg meat.
Chi Yan's anger flared even more fiercely, and he coldly demanded, "What are you doing?!"
"Let's eat."
Hearing such a self-righteous reply, Chi Yan was furious and said childishly like a primary school student, "How could he eat your food!"
"Can't I?" Shi Sui asked, bewildered. This was just sharing with a good friend, what was wrong?
Xu Chaomu paused, holding her chopsticks, and looked at her, asking, "Shi Sui, do you mind?"
"do not mind."
"mind!"
They spoke almost simultaneously, but the boy was more impulsive, so his voice was louder.
As if to cover something up, Chi Yan quickly added, "Unhygienic."
Shi Sui stared blankly over and found that her deskmate had turned into a pufferfish again, and this time it was a pufferfish that had eaten a bomb.
She wanted to argue that the food wasn't hygienic, and even rush over to punch him a couple of times—what was wrong with the food she made?! But when she met the boy's eyes, the words that were about to come out were: "Do you want to eat it?"
Shi Sui thought that instead of going to the cafeteria at noon, they came to the rooftop to enjoy the view, and there were two other people eating lunch next to them. They must have been hungry and angry because their stomachs were rumbling.
"What's so good to eat?" Chi Yan muttered, but his body still moved closer and glanced at the lunchbox.
"I made it myself," Shi Sui said. "It's very hygienic."
For the picky young master, he really wasn't interested in roasted chicken drumsticks.
But this is from Shi Sui's lunchbox.
She made it herself.
So he pretended to be very reluctant, frowned, and said as if he was being forced, "Then I'll just try a bite."
Shi Sui wiped her chopsticks with a tissue, and without hesitation, picked up a piece of grilled chicken leg and held it to his mouth: "Eat."
Chi Yan froze, her hand, which was about to pick up chopsticks, hovered in the air before finally being lowered.
He looked into the girl's bright eyes, obediently opened his mouth, and took the roasted chicken leg into his mouth.
Then he glanced smugly at Xu Chaomu, though he didn't know why.
Shi Sui quickly pulled back her chopsticks and wiped them with a tissue.
She suddenly remembered that someone had made a promise with her that the loser of a fight would cook for the winner, and then they added another clause: the loser would have to feed the winner.
As if possessed, he fed Chi Yan a mouthful.
Although she had never fought with him or won or lost, she willingly became his lackey under the lure of money.
Shi Sui snapped out of her thoughts, looked up at Chi Yan, and subconsciously asked, "Is it delicious?"
"It's so-so." He wouldn't say it was delicious; he was still angry.
Shi Sui had no hope of hearing praise from him anyway; it was enough that she could sense from his voice that her anger had subsided considerably.
She thought to herself that she was right after all; Chi Yan was just angry because he was hungry, and that feeding him a bite of food would make him feel better.
So Shi Sui asked, "Aren't you going to the cafeteria for lunch?"
"Go to the cafeteria for lunch, and then leave the two of you here doing who-knows-what!" Chi Yan glanced at Xu Chaomu indifferently, and inexplicably felt a surge of anger.
He grabbed Shi Sui's wrist and blurted out, "Come with me."
"Huh? What? I haven't finished eating yet, where are we going?" Shi Sui was completely confused and forgot to pull her hand away from his.
"Shi Sui." Xu Chaomu gently pulled on the sleeve of her other hand, his deep voice brushing past her ear.
