Chapter 47 Don't take it too seriously, and don't get caught up in it.
This morning, as I passed by the classroom of Class 1, I unexpectedly saw Chi Yan's deskmate.
Compared to the hazy view of the library from afar, this time we were much closer.
You can clearly see the girl's fair and clean face, her delicate nose, her pink lips like cherry blossoms, and her long hair tied in a high ponytail.
He had fair skin and long hair, completely opposite to the person in his heart.
The names sound the same, but Pei Shuoxun still couldn't help but take a second look.
After watching it, all that's left is disappointment and inexplicable resentment.
I feel empty inside, as if my heart is sinking heavily, and I feel an indescribable sense of unease.
Distracted for a whole class period, Pei Shuoxun went downstairs to the activity room to smoke after class.
He is a person who can control his desires very well. He is not a heavy smoker and only smokes a little when he is extremely depressed.
He leaned against the specimen cabinet, tilted his head, and lit a cigarette, the bluish-white smoke drifting in the air.
Not long after, the door to the activity room opened, and a group of girls came in chattering away.
The girls didn't notice him.
Logically, he should have shown up, but for some unknown reason, upon hearing Shi Sui's name, he paused, extinguished his cigarette, and disappeared into the shadows.
And so, all the arguing was heard.
That's pretty childish.
It's nothing more than girls who like Chi Yan teasing each other.
The pampered young ladies were too reserved; they would just exchange a few words, but they wouldn't actually pull hair, scratch each other's faces, or fight.
It was like children playing house; it all fell apart in no time.
As the footsteps faded into the distance, Pei Shuoxun emerged from the shadows. Turning his head, he saw the girl with her back to him opening the window.
A gentle breeze ruffled her hair, and light shone through the gaps in the curtains from behind, framing her face with a golden edge.
He was Chi Yan's deskmate.
The phone screen was still lit, and the WeChat chat interface was still refreshing.
[She must have been really sad that I couldn't go to the aquarium yesterday, so she brought me a jellyfish pillow today.]
Even after being rejected, she still wouldn't give up; that's just my charm.
[She wore the new dress I bought her today, and it looks much better on her.]
[Did her school uniform jacket save her life? Why does she keep wearing it?]
[Why did he disappear as soon as get out of class ended? He usually doesn't go to the bathroom after the first period.]
……
Pei Shuoxun watched her retreating figure. Logically, he should have left without saying a word, but inexplicably—he moved closer.
When Shi Sui turned around, she saw someone standing behind her without making a sound. Suddenly, she was so frightened that her soul almost flew out of her body.
"So it was you smoking here." She noticed the scarlet cigarette he was holding in his hand, and a thin wisp of grayish-blue smoke rising from it.
Shi Sui glanced at him indifferently, feeling that she didn't recognize him, but he seemed somewhat familiar. He must be from another class, but she had run into him on the street before.
Without asking who he was or why he was there, Shi Sui lowered her head and walked past, saying, "Excuse me."
Pei Shuoxun's gaze lingered on her eyes. The girl lowered her eyes, and her long eyelashes cast a pale blue shadow.
The look she gave me just now was indifferent, cold, and dismissive.
Her voice also had a hint of coolness, faint and reminding him of the frost that forms on the grass after the first snow.
But for some reason, it reminded him of that person.
Their eyes are similar, and their voices are similar too.
In the instant they brushed past each other, perhaps without thinking, Pei Shuoxun reached out and grabbed her arm.
Shi Sui turned around in surprise and asked, "Is something wrong?"
"N-nothing." Pei Shuoxun released his hand, belatedly realizing that he had been somewhat out of line.
It's just someone with the same name. How could such a delicate young girl be her?
"Oh, then I'm sorry to have bothered you," Shi Sui said politely before quickly leaving.
Pei Shuoxun watched as the girl gently closed the door to the activity room. The smoke from the cigarette cleared his lungs, waking him from his somewhat sluggish thoughts.
Pei Shuoxun's phone vibrated; another new message from Chi Yan had arrived. He opened it and glanced at it.
[Where did my deskmate go? Class is almost starting, why isn't he back yet?]
[Holy crap, Song Xinying isn't in the classroom either. Is she going to bully my deskmate?!]
Pei Shuoxun chuckled. Chi Yan had indeed guessed half of it correctly, except that Song Xinying had been bullied and run away.
[I'm going to find my deskmate; he's clumsy and always gets bullied.]
[Where do you think she might be? Should we look for her in the women's restroom?]
……
Pei Shuoxun felt inexplicably irritated, frowned slightly, and replied with one hand: [Is she pursuing you or are you pursuing her? She's at school, nothing will happen to her, why are you so concerned about her?]
There was a half-minute silence on the other end before a reply came: [This is all because of me. Song Xinying is targeting her because of me. Isn't it only natural for me to talk to her?]
Pei Shuoxun found it amusing: [Since when has Young Master Chi ever cared about these things? Back then, when those women fought over you, you didn't say a word!]
Caught off guard and unable to find a rebuttal, Chi Yan said: [I'm too lazy to deal with you, I'm going to find my deskmate.]
Pei Shuoxun was too lazy to pay attention to him, but the inexplicable irritation in his heart was really unbearable if he didn't vent it.
He flicked his fingers, lightly brushing away the ash from the half-burnt cigarette; the message had already been sent.
[Young Master Chi, that guy sitting next to you is probably only after the Chi family's money. Don't take it too seriously, and don't get involved.]
*
Chi Yan picked up Yan Ze from his seat and they reached the classroom door in a few steps.
Yan Ze, who was engrossed in his game, was moved to the hallway, completely bewildered: "Brother Chi, what happened?"
"Where's my deskmate?" Chi Yan felt inexplicably uneasy, a feeling he rarely experienced.
"You're asking me? Who am I supposed to ask?" Yan Ze thought to himself, muttering, "You don't need to keep such a close eye on people..."
Just then, a white figure rushed back into the classroom, covering her face. Chi Yan didn't see her clearly and asked, "Who's that?"
“Song Xinying.” Yan Ze recognized her by her clothes and sighed, “It’s strange that she’s ignoring you like this. Usually, she’s always flitting around you like a butterfly.”
Some girls followed Song Xinying back to the classroom. Yan Ze commented, "These are all girls who are close to Song Xinying. Half of the girls on our floor are in her clique."
Chi Yan didn't care about any of that; she just stared longingly at the stairwell.
Chi Yan's phone vibrated. He glanced at it and saw it was a message from Pei Shuoxun: "Young Master Chi, that guy at your desk is probably only after the Chi family's money. Don't take it too seriously, and don't get involved."
It's heartfelt advice, but it's really disgusting.
