Chapter 27 Hatred
Chapter 27 Hatred
It was a bright and sunny afternoon, and Liu Hongyun walked briskly towards home with great joy.
He was, after all, a high-achieving student with excellent grades. Although he was a little older, his rich work experience quickly led to job offers from various companies. He passed the interviews smoothly, reached an agreement with the company, and will officially start his new job tomorrow.
In a cheerful mood, Liu Hongyun arrived at the supermarket early to buy groceries. Knowing his beloved daughter loved pork ribs, he specially selected some fresh ones. Oh, and his wife liked shrimp, so he decided to buy some as well.
He carried bags full of various groceries and walked briskly home. He was home early today; his wife had probably just picked up their daughter from school and hadn't had time to cook yet. Since that was the case, he'd cook today; after all, it had been a long time since he'd cooked for himself.
He happily imagined his family sitting together enjoying a delicious meal as he quickened his pace and soon returned to the familiar entrance of his residential compound. However, the entrance was now crowded with people and police cars.
What's going on? Why are there police officers here? What happened?
At this moment, several of his neighbors saw Liu Hongyun. When they saw Liu Hongyun, they rushed forward and grabbed him, saying anxiously, "Old Liu, you're finally back! Something happened to your family!" Liu Hongyun was startled, and his things fell to the ground.
He hurriedly asked, "What happened? Where are my wife and children?"
"This..." The neighbors were speechless for a moment, and they didn't dare to tell him the truth.
"What's wrong with them? Say something!" Liu Hongyun roared. Judging from their reaction, he knew exactly what was going on.
At this moment, the police noticed the commotion and began to approach.
"Excuse me, are you Mr. Liu Hongyun?" one of the police officers asked.
"It's me, officer. What happened? Where are my wife and daughter?" Liu Hongyun looked at the policeman in front of him nervously, a sense of foreboding rising in his heart.
The police officer felt a pang of pity; he didn't know how the man would react when he found out what was going to happen next.
"Mr. Liu, a mentally ill person who went mad was attacking people with an axe at the entrance of the residential area. Your wife and daughter were attacked when they arrived at the entrance... Your daughter was seriously injured, and we have already taken her to the hospital." The policeman said these words with difficulty, his voice heavy.
"What about my wife? How...how is she?" Liu Hongyun's eyes widened, his lips trembling slightly. He had a vague idea of what the police officer would say next, but he couldn't believe it, at least...before the police officer finished speaking.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Liu, when we arrived, your wife had already... passed away." The policeman lowered his head, his voice low and heavy.
Liu Hongyun's body jolted violently, his face instantly turning deathly pale. He couldn't accept this fact, and tears welled up uncontrollably in his eyes.
"No! Impossible! You must be mistaken! My wife wouldn't just leave me and the children like this!" He shook his head frantically, shouting uncontrollably.
“Mr. Liu, please calm down. It’s true, and we are very sorry. But please believe that we will do our best to catch the murderer and make him receive the punishment he deserves.” The police tried to comfort him, but Liu Hongyun wouldn’t listen at all.
"No! No!" Liu Hongyun roared in despair, his body swaying precariously.
The police officers quickly supported him, worried that he might faint from excessive grief.
"Mr. Liu, you must be strong. Your daughter needs your care," the police officer said softly.
A wave of intense grief washed over Liu Hongyun, and his world crumbled instantly. He shook his head helplessly, then suddenly felt dizzy, his vision went black, and he collapsed to the ground…
When he woke up again, he found himself lying in a hospital bed, surrounded by white surroundings and the pungent smell of disinfectant. He slowly opened his eyes, and his blurry vision gradually cleared.
“Dad…” A faint but familiar voice reached his ears. He turned his head with difficulty and saw his daughter sitting on the edge of the bed, her face covered in tears, her eyes filled with sadness and helplessness.
Liu Hongyun struggled to lift his head, gazing at his daughter's face, tears streaming down his face. He reached out a trembling hand, wanting to touch his daughter's cheek, yet afraid of hurting her.
The daughter sobbed softly, holding her father's hand tightly, as if trying to pass on all her pain to him. Her gaze fell on her father, yet she dared not look him in the eye, as if afraid to touch the deepest, most painful wound in his heart.
Liu Hongyun followed her daughter's gaze and saw that her daughter's clothes were hanging loosely on her left shoulder...
"Dad, Mom..." the daughter choked, her body trembling violently, unable to speak. That terrible disaster left an indelible mark on her, becoming a permanent shadow in her heart.
Liu Hongyun was heartbroken. He hugged his daughter tightly and cried loudly.
...
"I'm sorry, Mr. Liu, this case is a bit complicated." The next morning, the lawyer the police had found for Liu Hongyun arrived at the hospital with the documents.
Liu Hongyun sat pale-faced on the hospital bed, his eyes revealing deep grief and anger. He clenched his fists tightly, as if to vent all his emotions.
Looking at Liu Hongyun's expression, the lawyer felt a heaviness in his heart. He said softly, "Although the criminal was caught on the spot, according to the overnight assessment, he is a mentally unstable person who escaped from a mental hospital. Therefore, it will be difficult for us to convict him."
Liu Hongyun's eyes widened in disbelief as he asked, "Does he deserve no punishment at all for killing someone in the street to take revenge on society? Did my wife's sacrifice go unpunished?" His voice trembled, filled with despair and resentment.
The lawyer sighed and said helplessly, "Unfortunately, the law is sometimes so helpless. But that doesn't mean he's completely innocent. We will do our best to achieve the best outcome, but we can't guarantee that he will receive the punishment he deserves."
Tears welled in Liu Hongyun's eyes, and his voice was low and hoarse: "What about my daughter? She lost her mother, and now she's not getting fair treatment..."
The lawyer patted Liu Hongyun on the shoulder and comforted him, saying, "Mr. Liu, I understand your pain and disappointment, but please trust that the legal system will ultimately make a reasonable ruling. At the same time, I also suggest that you consider whether you need to apply for some financial compensation and social assistance to help you and your daughter get through this difficult time."
After a moment of silence, Liu Hongyun slowly nodded, indicating that he accepted the lawyer's advice.
After the lawyer left, he looked at his daughter beside him. His daughter was traumatized and finally fell asleep under the doctors' hypnosis. Looking at his daughter's sleeping face, Liu Hongyun could not calm his resentment towards the criminals, and tears involuntarily fell down his face.
He got out of bed, looking dazed, dressed, and evaded the patrolling nurses as he hurried home. All the way, he kept his head down, avoiding eye contact with anyone. He felt like a criminal, a sinner who had lost his family.
When he returned home, a familiar scent wafted towards him. This scent made him feel incredibly warm and comforted, yet it also tore at his heart. He gently pushed open the door, and the house looked as cozy as ever, but this time, there was no woman to warmly welcome him home.
Liu Hongyun entered the bedroom, sat on the edge of the bed, and gently stroked his wife's photograph. His eyes were filled with endless sorrow and longing. He seemed to see the beautiful times they spent together when his wife was still alive. Those memories brought tears to his eyes.
"Wife, I'm so sorry..." he murmured to himself. Tears streamed down his cheeks, dripping onto his wife's photograph.
As if he had made up his mind, he stood up, walked to his desk, opened a drawer, and took out a sharp dagger.
He desperately wants to kill the killer; his lawyer has already shown him the killer's photo. However, the killer is currently in police custody, so he can't bring the knife in, let alone kill the person.
"I felt it, the power of hatred!"
"Who? Who's speaking?" Liu Hongyun panicked and looked around frantically, but he didn't see anyone.
"You don't need to know who I am. All you need to know is that I can help you get revenge, that's enough!"
"Don't you want to vent the hatred and anger in your heart? Just tell me the answer, and leave the rest to me."
Liu Hongyun fell silent. The sudden voice made him hesitate; he didn't know whether to believe it. Then, the smiles of his wife and daughter flashed into his mind—such beautiful memories. But then the scene shifted, and he remembered the bed covered with a white sheet in the police station, and his trembling, crying daughter…
These painful memories flooded back like a tidal wave, causing Liu Hongyun excruciating pain. He couldn't help but clench his fists, his eyes filled with anger and despair. At this moment, all he wanted was to find the murderer, tear him to pieces, and vent his hatred.
"So? Have you made up your mind?" The mysterious voice rang out again, carrying a hint of temptation.
Liu Hongyun hesitated for a moment, but finally nodded: "Okay, I promise you." Liu Hong didn't know where the voice came from; he could only speak to the air.
"Hahaha... Alright! You're a smart one, leave the rest to me!"
Suddenly, a purplish-black aura emerged from Liu Hongyun's body, enveloping his entire being.
"Wait... what is this?" Liu Hongyun shouted in horror.
He couldn't see anything at that moment, only feel his body being bound by a powerful force. He tried to break free, but found himself completely unable to move. Not only that, even breathing became extremely difficult.
"Don't worry, I won't devour your consciousness. I'm just merging with you, and that takes time." The unfamiliar voice sounded again.
Liu Hongyun felt a surge of fear; he didn't know what the other party was going to do to him.
As the purplish-black aura gradually eroded Liu Hongyun's body, his consciousness began to blur. He felt as if he were being devoured, a feeling that filled him with helplessness and despair.
Liu Hongyun was swallowed up by the purple mist and vanished without a trace. The entire room fell into silence, with only the purplish-black aura still slowly flowing.
...
A moment later, the purple mist dissipated, and a hideous monster appeared in the room.
The monster possessed a set of sharp teeth, so razor-sharp they sent chills down one's spine. Its eyes were blood-red, revealing a fierce and brutal nature. Furthermore, its body was covered in a layer of sturdy armor, gleaming with a cold, chilling light. A belt appeared to be wrapped around its waist.
"Kuuga!"
The entire room was instantly enveloped by this terrifying aura, suffocating as if the end of the world had arrived.
