Chapter 195 Atonement
Chapter 195 Atonement
Chapter 195 Atonement
Zhuang Changwu fell into deep thought, realizing that Lin Yue's words made sense.
But that's easier said than done.
Chi Shuyao slowly opened her eyes, her consciousness still in a state of confusion, as if the whole world was spinning. She blinked, trying to clear her mind, her gaze falling on the unfamiliar ceiling above.
Where am I? Aren't I being...?
"Shuyao! Shuyao, you're finally awake!" An excited shout interrupted Chi Shuyao's thoughts. She turned her head sharply, her gaze falling on the man beside the bed.
It was a familiar face, but at this moment, Chi Shuyao only felt fear. She desperately moved further into the bed, wanting to get as far away from this man as possible, as if he were some terrifying monster.
Chi Shuyao made a sign language, which Gu Chenfeng understood. It meant, "Please, don't hit me..." Her body trembled slightly with fear.
Gu Chenfeng felt a sharp pain in his heart. He rushed forward, his hands trembling, and carefully held Chi Shuyao tightly in his arms. He gently rubbed the girl's forehead, tears streaming down his face like a burst dam.
"Don't do this, Shuyao...don't do this..." Gu Chenfeng's voice was filled with pain and self-blame, "I will never hurt you again, never..."
He held Chi Shuyao tightly, as if she were the most precious treasure in the world, afraid that if he let go, she would disappear like smoke.
"Shuyao... I'm sorry... I'm really sorry... I deserve to die... I deserve to die..." Gu Chenfeng kept repeating this sentence, each word like a knife, deeply piercing his own heart.
However, Chi Shuyao had no idea what he was talking about. Ever since she woke up, she had been on edge, filled with fear of this man.
She didn't know why he had suddenly appeared there, nor did she know if he would hurt her again.
Chi Shuyao struggled desperately in Gu Chenfeng's arms, her eyes filled with terror and helplessness. Gu Chenfeng sensed her resistance and had no choice but to release her. He looked at Chi Shuyao, his eyes filled with heartache and despair.
Just then, the ward door opened, and the doctor walked in. "The patient has just woken up and needs to rest well. He shouldn't get too emotional," the doctor said, looking at the two of them. Gu Chenfeng quickly nodded and said softly, "I understand, doctor."
Taking advantage of Gu Chenfeng's distraction, Chi Shuyao quickly got out of bed, wanting to escape this place. But she forgot that her leg was broken.
She almost fell as soon as she stepped onto the ground. Gu Chenfeng reacted quickly and caught her.
Chi Shuyao struggled again, looking at him in terror, gesturing in sign language, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have disobeyed..."
Gu Chenfeng watched as Chi Shuyao's sign language conveyed fear and apology, his heart feeling as if it were being pierced by countless needles. His eyes reddened, and his voice trembled as he said, "Shuyao, it's not your fault, it's my fault, I hurt you." But Chi Shuyao couldn't hear him at all; she only felt that Gu Chenfeng's approach was a sign of danger.
Seeing this, the doctor rushed over to help and gave Chi Shuyao an injection of a sedative. Chi Shuyao gradually calmed down, her eyes no longer filled with fear, and she slowly closed them. Gu Chenfeng sat by the bed, holding her hand tightly, not daring to let go for a moment.
In the days that followed, Gu Chenfeng stayed by Chi Shuyao's side without leaving her for a moment. He wiped her body, kept her company, and was careful in every movement. He kept talking to Chi Shuyao, telling her how much he regretted it and how much he loved her.
For four days, Gu Chenfeng did not go to the company, so his father had to take over the management. There were too many things to do at the company, and his father did not have time to come over.
Gradually, the fear in Chi Shuyao's eyes began to lessen, and she would occasionally listen quietly to Gu Chenfeng speak.
Gu Chenfeng knew that it would take a long time for Chi Shuyao to truly lower her guard and accept him again, and he was willing to spend his whole life making up for his mistakes.
But... it's all too late... everything is over...
On the fourth night, Chi Shuyao, who had been unable to eat anything and was only surviving on intravenous nutrition, suddenly regained her appetite, ate some porridge, and had some strength, allowing her to sit up in bed.
Gu Chenfeng, however, was not happy at all, because he knew what this meant.
Gu Chenfeng forced back his tears, trying to keep his voice calm. He looked at Chi Shuyao gently and said, "Shuyao... eat more. You'll have more energy if you eat well..." He couldn't finish his sentence.
Chi Shuyao looked at him, a hint of gentleness in her eyes, and with a weak strength, she gestured in sign language: "You eat too." Gu Chenfeng could no longer hold back, and tears welled up in his eyes.
He nodded, his voice choked with emotion, and said, "Okay, I'll eat it."
That night, Gu Chenfeng held Chi Shuyao's hand tightly, as if that would keep her by his side. Chi Shuyao's breathing gradually weakened, and her hand slowly lost its warmth.
Suddenly, Chi Shuyao stretched out her hand and gestured for paper and pen.
Gu Chenfeng immediately brought over paper and pen, and Chi Shuyao wrote words on it stroke by stroke.
It took her a long time to write those few words. Gu Chenfeng stared at the words on the notebook, his eyes filled with tears.
The paper read: "Do you know where my brother Chenfeng went?"
Gu Chenfeng felt as if his heart had been torn into countless pieces.
Looking into the girl's clear eyes, he was a little afraid to look her in the eye. He wanted to tell her that he was Gu Chenfeng, but a voice inside him told him otherwise.
He doesn't deserve to be his brother Chenfeng.
Seeing that the other person didn't speak but just kept hugging her and crying, the girl seemed to understand something and silently lay back down on the bed.
Chi Shuyao's breath grew weaker and weaker. She stared at the ceiling, her eyes gradually becoming vacant. Gu Chenfeng held her hand tightly, his body trembling uncontrollably.
He didn't sleep a wink that night.
In the darkest hour before dawn, Chi Shuyao slowly closed her eyes.
As the first rays of sunlight streamed into the ward, Chi Shuyao stopped breathing.
Gu Chenfeng sat blankly on the edge of the bed, tears streaming silently down his face. He knew he could never forgive himself; he had lost the person he loved most in the world.
After handling Chi Shuyao's funeral arrangements, Gu Chenfeng was like a walking corpse.
The next day, Gu Chenfeng returned to the villa carrying the small box.
There were many people at the entrance of the villa, one of whom was Lin Yue.
A policeman stepped forward: "Mr. Gu Chenfeng, we have received a report that you are suspected of illegal imprisonment and intentional assault. Please come with us!"
Gu Chenfeng understood. He looked at Lin Yue, who was staring at him coldly.
"Was it your decision, or hers?" he asked.
Lin Yue stepped forward and handed him a piece of paper: "She wrote this for you when she was sober. You'll understand once you read it."
Gu Chenfeng took the note with trembling hands; it was a limerick.
We once hoped to be together from dawn till dusk.
However, he was abused and covered in wounds.
Love eventually faded away.
His cold gaze faces the dust of the world alone.
Gu Chenfeng looked at the poem, tears blurring his vision once again.
He did not resist, but turned to the police and said, "I'll go with you."
"Give me her ashes," Lin Yue said coldly. Gu Chenfeng was silent for a moment, then slowly handed the box to Lin Yue. "Take good care of her for me," he said hoarsely. He knew he didn't deserve to carry it.
He then resolutely got into the car with the police.
Lin Yue came to Chi Xiaoyu's grave again.
The place was quiet, with only the rustling of leaves in the wind. Lin Yue slowly knelt down, placed Chi Shuyao's urn aside, and then gently stroked Chi Xiaoyu's tombstone.
"Xiaoyu, I've come to see you." Lin Yue's voice was low and gentle, as if afraid of waking her sleeping friend. Her eyes gradually welled up with tears, which slid down her cheeks.
Lin Yue opened the urn and carefully poured Chi Shuyao's ashes into the pre-dug grave. Then, she scooped up a handful of soil and gently sprinkled it on the ashes, as if covering Chi Shuyao with a warm blanket.
Having done all this, Lin Yue stood up and gazed at the two graves before her. She knew that from this moment on, the two sisters would rest here forever, undisturbed.
"Xiaoyu, don't worry, those who bullied you have already paid the price," Lin Yue murmured.
Li Yuetian silently walked to Lin Yue's side. He looked at Lin Yue quietly, feeling a pang of heartache for her.
(This chapter is almost finished. I think the "Another Kuuga" chapter was the best written. That was during the summer after graduation, and I didn't have much to do, so it was probably written better. Now that I'm working, I have a herniated disc that hurts me from time to time, and I can't sit for long periods of time, so I have much less time to write this. But I can guarantee at least one chapter a week, though I probably won't reach that level usually.)
